Community champion Jo from our Pwllheli supermarket is a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! over the 20 years since the store opened.

It's a cause very close to Jo's heart. She said: "Tickled Pink means so much to me as I have lost so many of my family and friends to breast cancer, including my mum, grandmother, my sister and my aunt, and I've had a few health scares myself. To me Tickled Pink is all about hope, awareness, kindness, knowledge ... and vital fundraising. It's also about having fun with colleagues and customers and of course wearing lots of pink – tutus, wigs, you name it, we love pink! Whenever I have a Tickled Pink event in our store the conversations that I have with customers about their cancer journey is often very emotional and sad, but hearing people's good news is wonderful, as there really is hope."

Thanks to the generous support of customers and colleagues Asda has raised more than £100 million for charity since Tickled Pink launched in 1996 – and Jo says it's so important that it continues to raise awareness: "Early detection is so important so please to check your chest, pecs and b***s no matter your age, that includes men too! And if you find anything that doesn't feel right, please see your GP."

Community champion Kuia from our Belvedere store has fought breast cancer twice so knows how difficult it can be for people to talk about their own diagnosis and treatment – which is why she's always ready to be a listening ear and a friendly face to chat to.

She's a passionate supporter of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. In that time Tickled Pink has raised £100 million to change the outcomes of breast cancer in the UK, working with charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!.

Kuia said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and the progress which has been achieved over the past 30 years is remarkable. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer the first time at the age of 28 I was just given a leaflet, and that's it. I didn't know anyone my age who'd had breast cancer and I never knew success stories either. Some people couldn't even say the word cancer, they'd cross the street to avoid me. People even thought it was contagious! Now there's support networks and groups out there and you can contact nurses online. Access to information is a lot easier and there are new remedies and treatments too.

"I'm very open about having had breast cancer. In my job I meet a lot of people who have been diagnosed and are scared. Everybody's journey is different, but it's nice sometimes to see somebody who has got through the other side. I'm very open about what I've been through and I do a lot of awareness stands for Tickled Pink which involve talking to customers and handing out leaflets. Sometimes people just want to talk to someone about their diagnosis and they are in a bit of shock."

18/10/2026

Helping a mum who gave birth in the car park of our Ipswich store inspired our colleague Charmaine to train as a midwife – and after three years at university, including placements at Ipswich Hospital and helping with 40 births – she's now fully qualified.

Charmaine said: "I was just going home and walking across the car park with a colleague when we heard what was going on and went over to help. The dad had just taken the baby and put it on mum. We rang the ambulance and got towels for the baby and waited for the ambulance to come. It was just a beautiful moment."

Charmaine has worked at Asda alongside her studies. She's looking for midwife opportunities, but hasn't ruled continuing in a part-time capacity with Asda. She said: "I sometimes see ladies who I've helped deliver their babies out shopping in Asda and they say to me 'hi, what are you doing here?' Working in the hospital and Asda was such a contrast though. I'd be delivering babies one day and then stacking shelves the next. Everyone at the store is very friendly and they've been very accommodating and supportive of me when I've been studying. It's been really lovely. Customers are really nice too and they know all about my studying."

Robert, the store's produce manager, said: “I’m so proud of Charmaine for balancing her work alongside her midwife course. It’s not easy managing both, and the effort she’s put into it deserves recognition. It’s great to see her working towards something she’s passionate about and I wish her all the best in the future."

16/10/2026

As part of the marketing team at Asda, Katie has been helping raise awareness of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign for the last 18 years – and she says its messages of regularly checking yourself and knowing what to look for were critical when she got her own breast cancer diagnosis.

Katie used a guide from Tickled Pink charity partner CoppaFeel! to make sure she was properly checking her breasts. And when she felt a lump during one of her routine checks in September 2024 she knew she needed to get it looked at. She said: "Because I’ve been involved in Tickled Pink throughout my time with Asda I was exposed to all the important messages, so was really good at regularly checking myself and knew how to do it and what to look out for. I use the CoppaFeel! infographic showing how to check properly, including under the armpits. That was crucial because I had such a good routine and good rigour. That’s why I had noticed that change and was able to monitor that. Even before my diagnosis, Tickled Pink added value to my life because I knew to be vigilant."

And after her diagnosis, support from Tickled Pink charity partner Breast Cancer Now made a huge difference: "One of the first things they gave me after my diagnosis was from Breast Cancer Now with all of the terms I was likely to hear and information on what to expect. That gave me a lot of comfort and hope and I felt quite positive going into my treatment. I used the Breast Cancer Now forum during my treatment and met ladies who were in a similar position to me. You feel lonely and like you are the only person in the world going through it, but the forum helped me get through it. And after I had finished my treatment I did the Moving Forward course which is funded by money raised by Tickled Pink. You work out your plan, talk about how you feel, what a new normal might look like and how to find your place in the world again."

Katie returned to work in February and is using her experience, and her marketing expertise, to help other women in a similar situation. She uses her Instagram account to document her experience. She's been directly involved with Tickled Pink this year, including the Kylie Minogue Tickled Pink T-shirt launch. She said: "It’s amazing to work on. When I came back into the business people were a bit reluctant to get me involved with Tickled Pink in case it was triggering for me, but I was like ‘let me at it!’ and couldn’t wait to get involved."

Asda customer Darren has a personal reason for supporting the 30th anniversary celebrations for Tickled Pink – he’s had breast cancer himself. 🎀

Darren said: "Being a being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen.”

13/10/2026

As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign Sam is taking on a "triple no ni**le challenge" to raise awareness and inspire people to check themselves.

At 19, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy to her chest. While the treatment saved her life, radiotherapy increased their risk of developing breast cancer later in life. She underwent a risk reduction double mastectomy in April 2025 and says that for her, it was the right decision. Now 32, she has tackled the London Marathon, Chase the Sun, a 205-mile cycle ride between sunrise and sunset, and a two-mile Swim Serpentine challenge in London – raising money for our charity partner CoppaFeel!. Sam took on all of her three challenges topless to start conversations, challenge perceptions and show that her body is strong and valid.

She said: "It's liberating! I'm doing them all topless to show off the scars. I want people to be able to advocate for themselves, go to the GP and, seeing my chest, think, 'I should probably check my chest, there's a bit of a lump, go get it checked out. I don't want to get scars like that.' I think it's beautiful, this survivor's body I live in and I'm really proud of it. But I know there'll be some people that feel differently, they might see that and go "I should get that little lump checked" and that's what I'm doing. I've lived through all that rubbish so that I can try and turn it into something good. I wanted to do something bold and brave and give people an opportunity to see it."

Sam also has a message for Asda customers: "Happy 30th birthday to Tickled Pink. What you guys have been doing over the years is amazing. I've been seeing that messaging since I was a kid and you know when Asda turns pink everybody knows about it. It's such a great platform to raise that awareness and raise that message and get people checking their chests and advocating for themselves and raising money for vital things like Breast Cancer Now and everything they do and CoppaFeel! and everything they do. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

09/10/2026

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

You were all very supportive and recognised the good work Women's Aid does within our area.I and my fellow Community Champs (Robyn-Shore Rd and Ashley-Antrim Store) the next day completed a sponsored walk (4 miles) from Crawfordsburn Country Park to Bangor Store along the coastal path and could not have asked for better weather.

Our store's community champion Ami saved the day for a customer after spotting they'd dropped £240 on the floor.

Ami was working near the checkouts when she spotted some notes on the ground. When she picked them up, she realised there was much more money than she’d expected – a total of £240 – and handed it in at the customer service desk. The customer who'd dropped the cash returned to the store just 10 minutes later to say he had withdrawn £300 from the ATM, spent £60 in store, and only realised afterwards he had lost the remaining £240.

Ami said: “When I was holding the money, I just thought this could be someone's rent money or how I couldn't easily replace £240 if I had lost it myself. I was absolutely thrilled to know I helped get the money back to him.”

Store manager Anthony said: “We’re all very proud of Ami, her honesty and professionalism while carrying out her duties that helped reunite the customer with something incredibly valuable. Well done, Ami!”

It was great to be able to present Amanda from Uhub Therapy Centre with a cheque for £250 from Asda Foundation's Match Funding Scheme.

Pam, who's been George Colleague here at Bangor for 20 years, held a sponsored walk from Pickie Funpark to Helen's Bay Beach, some four miles, to raise money for the In Touch with Autism project run by Uhub.

Pam and fellow participants battled through rain to raise a whooping £1,157 and with Asda Foundation's extra £250 the full total came to £1,407!

Pam felt empowered to act as her daughter attends the In Touch with Autism group and Pam had only set out to raise £100 so was blown away by the support shown by her friends and family in raising 10 times that much.

Amanda said that without this fundraising organised by Pam and without everyone who donated they would not have been able to run Summer Scheme for their four groups, over 40 service users, this year. The Summer Schemes were to be axed this due to a lack of funding, but now can go ahead which has delighted everyone involved

It was great to be out of Store today supporting Bangor Central Integrated Primary School's P1-3 Sports Day.

We were lucky, despite the forecast, the rain stayed off for the whole event and I even wished I'd brought my sun glasses at some points.

It was lovely to see the P7 pupils buddy system working so well. The P7 pupils set up the activities for the younger school and kept order throughout the games.

The pupils were certainly ready for their water and bananas after all the running around.

We were delighted to donate 130 cereal bars to North Down Womens Aid's Annual No Where to Run 5k run.

Elaine (from Womens Aid) collected the bars in advance of the event and I was telling how my daughter was taking part but that couldn't as I'm not a runner but she assured me that many people walk it too.

So I signed myself up and went along. It was a great way to start a Sunday morning supporting no more violence against women or men.

The newly appointed Major (Craig Blaney) was there and not only gave a speech but also took part.

My only low was when my daughter lapped me on my 2/3 lap around Ward Park.I certainly was thankful for my Asda Cereal Bar at the end of my 5k power walk.
