Do you give way in this situation? 🤔

This is Highway Code Rule 170 in action - and it’s one that still catches many drivers out!

Since January 2022, you should give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road you’re turning into. In this scenario, the car wants to turn into the side road, but the pedestrian is crossing it - so the car must wait.

Before 2022, vehicles had priority and pedestrians had to wait. Now, it’s the other way around to protect vulnerable road users.

But here’s the debate: Some say it’s made junctions safer. Others argue it causes confusion, sudden stops, and even puts pedestrians at MORE risk when drivers behind aren’t expecting you to stop.
