🚗 Audi A4 Avant: SOS & Child Lock Resolution

Precision diagnostics over guesswork. This 2018 Avant came in with multiple warnings, but the data told the real story.

The Diagnostic Breakdown:
SOS Warning: Scans pointed directly to a faulty emergency call control unit battery (A16).
Child Lock Fault: Often a software quirk, but hardware testing confirmed a mechanical failure within the door lock unit itself.

The Fix:
SOS Battery: Replaced with a genuine unit. A slight delay due to a parts mismatch on delivery, but we ensured the exact spec was fitted to clear the dash permanently.

Child Lock:
Verified that a software update wasn't the answer here - which requires a replacement door lock

🚐 Fixed: 2021 VW Transporter SOS Fault

Got a visit from this pristine 2021 VW Transporter that had a frustrating SOS fault.

The customer initially went to the main Volkswagen dealership in Dundalk for diagnosis, where they identified the issue as the back-up battery. Unfortunately, the part was on a long-term back order, leaving them without a fix.

Thankfully, we at Vwg Solutions carry a good supply of these back-up batteries in stock. Once the customer reached out, we booked them straight into our workshop in Banbridge.

The Repair Process
》Initial Check: Carried out a quick diagnostic check to confirm the battery was at fault.

》Access: Carefully removed the instrument cluster to gain access to the J949 SOS module.

》Replacement: Replaced the faulty back-up battery with a fresh one from our in-house stock.

》Adaptations: Carried out all the necessary adaptations to clear the system.

The Result
Confirmed the mighty green light is back on the overhead console, and there are absolutely no warning lights on the dashboard!

Why is a 2018 Part on a 2021 Audi E-Tron? 🕵️‍♂️⚡

We recently had this stunning 2021 Audi E-Tron come into the workshop at Vwg Solutions after the owner experienced frustrating and sporadic faults with the rear light bar, along with number plate light errors popping up on the dash.

Here’s how we got to the bottom of the issue:

 💻 The Initial Check:
Diagnostics showed clear error codes, but there were no obvious visual issues with the lights. We checked the wiring from the light bar all the way to the convenience control module, and everything tested perfectly.

🔍 The Discovery:
We decided to remove the light bar for a closer look. That's when we found something unexpected: the unit had a manufacturing date of 14/09/2018 (Part No: 4KE.945.095.B).

📆 The Problem:
Parts fitted to a vehicle are typically manufactured within 6 months of the car's production date. This meant the vehicle had been repaired at some stage with an older, incorrect part!

🛠 The Solution
The customer sourced the correct brand-new unit from Audi Portadown (Part No: 4KE.945.095.F) and brought it to Vwg Solutions for fitting. We installed the correct part, cleared the faults, and got the tail lights functioning perfectly again.

🛑 Is Your Tiguan Smelling Damp? The Hidden Culprit! 🚗🌧️

Notice a musty smell in your 2020 VW Tiguan, or find that the windows are constantly steaming up?

Blocked sunroof drains are a common headache for Tiguan owners, but the good news is that they are entirely preventable with a little know-how! ☔️

💡 Why Do They Get Blocked?
Over time, debris, leaves, and dirt find their way into the sunroof channels. When this buildup reaches the drain tubes, water can't escape and backs up into your vehicle’s interior, leading to that damp smell or foggy windows.

🛠️ Simple Steps to Prevent It:

● Keep it clear:
Regularly clean around the sunroof seal using a soft cloth and warm, soapy water.

 ● Check the tubes:
Ensure water flows freely out of the drain tubes (you can find them near the front and rear wheel arches).

 ● Clear the gutters:
Carefully remove any leaves caught in the front gutters before they can enter the drainage system.

If you suspect a blockage or are dealing with a damp interior, it’s always best to get it checked by a specialist before it turns into a larger issue.

At Vwg Solutions, we specialize in VW Group diagnostics to keep your car running perfectly.

DON’T ATTACK IT WITH THE "PARTS CANNON" 🚫🚀

We had a bit of a mystery in the workshop today with this 2019 Vw Amarok. 🕵️‍♂️

The Symptom:
The main beam flashers were completely dead. However, if you pushed the stalk forward, the high beams would lock on—but then they wouldn't turn off unless you cycled the main light switch! 🔦 Not ideal (or safe) for night driving. 🌑

The "Expensive" Mistake:
The customer had already replaced the entire column stalk unit trying to fix it. Unfortunately, that’s a common and costly mistake when you don't have a clear diagnostic path. 💸❌

The Vwg Solutions Fix:
We were prepared for a long afternoon of wiring diagrams and testing, but it turns out the "Fuse Fairies" 🧚‍♂️ had been at work! They’d managed to "vanish" a single 5amp fuse.
We popped a fresh one in, and—presto—everything was back to normal. 🪄✨

Sometimes the simplest things cause the biggest headaches!

The Lesson: Before you start throwing parts at a problem, get it diagnosed properly. It could save you hundreds. 🛠️
