Your dashboard is talking to you, but are you listening?
This chart translates the critical hieroglyphics that appear on your instrument cluster, categorizing them by system urgency:
1. Engine & Powertrain Alerts
These lights indicate issues with the vehicle's propulsion:
Check Engine Light: The outlined engine icon indicates "Engine Failure" or a specific "Problem detected by OBD" (On-Board Diagnostics). This covers everything from loose gas caps to misfiring cylinders.
EPC Light: This stands for Electronic Power Control and is linked to the "Throttle Body". It often signals a malfunction in the electronic throttle system, leading to power loss.
Temperature Warning: The red thermometer floating in waves signifies "Engine Temperature" issues. Stop immediately if this turns red to avoid warping the cylinder head.
2. Safety & Braking Systems
These indicators ensure your protective systems are active:
ABS: The circle containing "ABS" refers to the "Anti-lock Braking System". As noted, this system "Prevents wheels from locking" during panic stops, allowing you to steer while braking.
Airbag: The icon of a seated passenger with a circle indicates "Airbag Failure". The system is disabled and will not deploy in a crash.
Traction Control: The car with skid marks represents "Traction Control". If lit constantly, the system that prevents wheel spin on slippery surfaces is malfunctioning.
3. Handling & Maintenance
TPMS (Tyre Pressure): The horseshoe shape with an exclamation mark warns of "Low Pressure" and instructs you to "Inflate tires".
Steering System: The steering wheel icon labeled "Power-Hidráulica" indicates a failure in the power steering assist, making the wheel extremely heavy to turn.
Greer’s Gears Garage Services we use advanced scanners to read the specific trouble codes behind these lights to diagnose faults and help fix the root cause, not just clear the error.
