Off the back of seeing a video recently mentioning £7,500 for a “respray”, and then reading the hundreds of comments underneath it about what a respray should or shouldn’t cost, I thought I’d give my take on it from a bodyshop’s point of view.
How much should a respray cost?
The problem is, it’s not really that simple.
In this video I’ve used a hypothetical £7,500 job and broken down where that money actually goes — the labour, preparation, bodywork, stripping, painting, polishing, materials, VAT and everything else that goes into doing the job properly.
It’s a longer video than I’d normally make, but hopefully it gives a bit of insight into why asking “how much for a respray?” without knowing exactly what work is required is almost impossible to answer.
This isn’t about whether £7,500 is cheap or expensive. It’s about understanding what you’re actually paying for.
