If your caravan has had a busy summer, autumn can be a sensible time to arrange its routine service.

There is no need to leave it until the week before your next trip. Getting it sorted once the main touring season begins to ease means one less job waiting for you in spring.

Thornhill Caravan & Motorhome Services provides mobile caravan servicing within roughly 60 miles of Ballyclare.

If autumn servicing suits the way you use your caravan, send your details through the website contact form:

For motorhome owners, a habitation check and a base-vehicle service are two different jobs.

A habitation check focuses on the living area. It covers systems including gas, electrics, water, heating, ventilation, damp and safety equipment.

The engine, brakes, tyres and suspension belong to the mechanical side of the vehicle and are dealt with separately.

Knowing the difference helps you arrange the right work for each part of your motorhome.

Thornhill Caravan & Motorhome Services provides professional habitation checks throughout Northern Ireland.

Approved Workshop status is more than a badge on the website.

To remain approved, Thornhill Caravan & Motorhome Services must pass an independent annual assessment and meet the standards set by the Approved Workshop Scheme.

The scheme is supported by the National Caravan Council, The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club.

For caravan and motorhome owners, that provides independent reassurance that servicing is being carried out to recognised industry standards.

When I arrive for a caravan service, habitation check or pre-purchase inspection, the job gets my full attention.

I work methodically, maintain professional standards and take the time to explain anything you need to know clearly and directly.

That is what I want Thornhill Services to be known for. Quality work, carried out properly, with straightforward face-to-face service.

If you already know roughly when your first trip of 2027 will be, it makes sense to work backwards from there.

A caravan service or habitation check is easier to plan when it is arranged well before your first journey. It gives you more choice over suitable dates and avoids trying to fit everything in just before you leave.

I run Thornhill Services myself, so there is a limit to how many appointments I can take each week.

If you are beginning to plan for next season, send your details through the website contact form:

One minute before you tow away could save you a roadside stop.

Check:

• Both indicators
• Brake lights
• Tail lights
• Number plate lights
• The connection between the car and caravan

Ask someone to operate the controls while you walk around the caravan.

A light that flickers when the plug or cable moves needs investigated. It may be a poor connection, damaged wiring or a fault inside the plug.

If your towing lights are unreliable, use the contact form on my website and include a description of what is happening.

Planning an August trip?

This is the point when small faults can become awkward. A window that will not close properly, an unreliable road light or an appliance that only works when it feels like it is unlikely to improve while you are away.

My diary can fill quickly during the touring season, so please do not leave a known problem until the day before you travel.

I provide mobile caravan and motorhome repairs across the local area.

The quickest way to enquire is through the contact form on my website. https://www.thornhillservices.co.uk/contact-us.

Add your location, vehicle details, the fault and your travel date.
That gives me the information I need to organise my schedule and see where I may be able to fit you in.

You can also give me a call.

Replacing parts until a fault disappears can become expensive very quickly.

When an appliance stops working, the part showing the symptoms is not always the part causing the problem. A poor connection, damaged cable, interrupted supply or control fault may be responsible.

I work through the system, test what is happening and identify the cause before recommending a repair.

That takes a little longer than making a guess, but it can save you from paying for parts you never needed.

Having trouble with an appliance in your caravan or motorhome? Call me with the make, model and symptoms, or better still fill out the form here. - https://www.thornhillservices.co.uk/contact-us

A smell of gas is never one to investigate later.

Turn the supply off at the cylinder, open the doors and windows, avoid flames and electrical switches, and get the system checked before using it again.

Gas faults are not always caused by the appliance itself. Hoses, regulators, joints and other parts of the system all need to be checked properly.

If something does not smell right in your caravan or motorhome, stop using the gas and arrange an inspection. Guesswork is not worth the risk.
