We’re making some subtle but meaningful changes to the practical driving test. 🚗

You may have seen that we have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.

As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high-speed, rural roads during their driving test, where location allowed. Now, we are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher-speed roads, we are:

✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world. They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.

After a run of pupils passing I have some availability for manual driving lessons.

Fully qualified ADI covering Airdrie and Coatbridge and surrounding areas.

All pupils get free access to our hub which has over 800 questions and videos to study for the theory test.

Weekly and fortnightly lessons available, alongside refresher courses and semi intensive courses.

New questions being added to the theory test in 2026!

Did you know whilst learning to drive with LDC you have free access to our hub which has over 800 questions alongside hazard perception videos and mock tests to practice on?

Would you know how to respond in an emergency?

Drivers are often first on the scene when someone suffers a cardiac arrest, meaning that knowing CPR could save a life.

If done effectively, it can more than double the chance of someone surviving a cardiac arrest, which is why from 2026 the theory test will include CPR and defibrillator questions.

As part of the changes, car and motorcycle theory test candidates will need to familiarise themselves with CPR techniques and how to use automated external defibrillators.
