We have been busy here at J’s Garage over the last few weeks!

A stunning golf mk7 Golf GTI we had in for a coolant loss issue,

A quick pressure check soon shows a leaking radiator,

Upon removal of the bumper we found the a/c condenser had also seen better days,

A quick discussion with the customer they opted to replace this at the same time, saving themselves further labour costs in the future,

✅Radiator replaced

✅A/c condenser replaced

✅Coolant system flushed

✅Silica packs removed

✅Coolant renewed

✅A/c regas

Some fun had with a Mercedes sprinter this week!!

First of all it came in for loss of power and abs warning light on,

On first inspection we found a leaking exhaust manifold (common), snaps off a stud causing gasket to leak on number 4 cylinder,

Manifold off, Drill out the broken stud and fit new stud and a fresh gasket,

Great! This then gave us boost back,

Once we could produce boost we found the intercooler leaking due to the winch wiring conduit had rubbed through the core,

Ok, whip off the cooler and fit a new replacement,

Good, this now highlights a leaking inlet manifold!!!!

Get the camera down under the manifold to see a bolt hanging out and the plastic around the sleeve falling out,

Inlet manifold off.
Drill out another snapped stud!!!

New manifold sourced, next day delivery (thanks to Lymm Engine Components )

Rebuild today,
washed all carbon from other manifold parts and egr system,

Cleared codes and now boosts and runs perfect!!

Oh and replaced the faulty abs sensor and we now have a clear dashboard!!

Another L200 clutch replaced here at the workshop this week. Old clutch had definitely seen some work. New clutch fitted and one happy customer.

The time has come to sort Leah’s little Lupo (Lenny) out.

It’s been using water for a while now, so off with his head.
Refurbished cylinder head ready to fit (thanks Neil) tomorrow along with some new gaskets and bolts, hopefully Lenny the Lupo will be up and running again tomorrow…….

After a quick inspection this evening we can see the head gasket has corroded in two places on two seperate cylinders. No wonder it was building coolant pressure and using water!

This is a quick reminder why coolant changes are so important!!
This coolant had been weak in the past and caused corrosion inside of the engine block, and also corroded various layers of the MLS head gasket, causing the gasket to swell and start to leak coolant into the cylinders.
