🚨 DVSA UPDATE – Changes to Driving Test Swaps from 1 October 🚨

The DVSA has announced a change to the way learner drivers can swap their practical driving tests.

What's changing?

βœ… The first learner will still need to contact the DVSA to request the swap.
βœ… The second learner will then contact the DVSA separately to confirm they are happy to swap.
βœ… Learners no longer need to be available at the same time, making the process smoother and less stressful.

If you're currently waiting for a driving test or hoping to swap with another learner, it's worth being aware of these changes.

Earlier this year, Kayla completed an intensive driving course with Steven's Driving School. While she wasn't quite ready for her test at that stage, she continued to build on those strong foundations with some additional lessons in Ballater before returning to take her test.

Her determination, commitment and hard work have now paid off with an excellent first-time pass. It just goes to show that everyone progresses at their own pace, and with the right preparation and perseverance, success follows.

Most people think their driving test starts the moment the car begins to move...

The truth is, your examiner is assessing you before you've even released the handbrake. πŸ‘€

A confident, well-prepared move off immediately shows your examiner that you're calm, organised and ready to drive safely.

Before moving away, make sure you:
βœ… Check all around the vehicle
βœ… Use your mirrors effectively
βœ… Check your blind spot with a clear head movement
βœ… Prepare the car correctly (gear, handbrake and biting point if required)
βœ… Move away smoothly and under control

Remember, driving examiners aren't looking for perfection.

They're looking for someone who can make safe, sensible decisions and demonstrate good driving habits from the very beginning of the test.

One thing I always tell my pupils:
"Take your time, but don't waste time."
A calm start often leads to a calm drive.
