Machine polishing a Land Rover Defender 90—especially one with a high-contrast Yulong White and Gloss Black finish—is all about enhancing depth and removing the "haze" that often hides the paint's true metallic flake.
Here is a breakdown of the process for this specific vehicle:
1. Preparation & Decontamination
Before the machine touches the paint, the car undergoes a multi-stage wash. This includes a snow foam soak, a contact wash, and a mechanical decontamination using a clay bar. This ensures the surface is smooth as glass, preventing any trapped grit from swirling the paint during the polishing phase.
2. Masking & Protection
All textured plastics and the edges of those gloss black wheel arches are carefully masked off with automotive tape. This prevents polish residue from staining the trim and protects sensitive edges from the heat of the polishing pad.
3. The Polishing Phase
• We use a Dual Action (DA) polisher and a diminishing abrasive polish to clear any light scratches
• The Main Body Panels: For the white paint, the goal is "optical clarity." A medium-cut foam pad is used to level out minor imperfections, followed by a finishing stage that makes the white appear "wet."

4. Final Result
The goal isn't just to make it shiny; it's to achieve a distinction of image (DOI). After the final wipe-down with an IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) solution to remove polishing oils, the white paint looks crisp and clinical, while the black accents provide a deep contrast under the studio lights.
5. Protection (The Finishing Touch)
To lock in that showroom glow, the freshly leveled paint is sealed with a 2 year Ceramic Coating. This provides a hydrophobic layer that keeps the car cleaner for longer and ensures that the effort put into the machine polish lasts for years, not weeks.
