Chassis 3586
📍Chantilly Arts & Elegance 2022
3586 is perhaps the most famous Miura. Without knowing it, you have probably all seen this car before, but it was only very recently that all the mystery was lifted.
Painted Arancio with a Nero interior and Bianco leather seats, 3586 leaved the factory on June 18, 1968. This is the 214th Miura produced. At this time, Paramount Pictures is looking for a car for its next film which is to take place in Italy, and where a Mini will play an important role in the streets of Rome. Do you see what I mean ? The film The Italian Job begins with a magnificent scene in the Alps where we see a sublime orange Miura crossing the mountains.
In June 1968, Paramount Pictures had approached Lamborghini for two Miuras: a wreck car for an accident scene, and an other one to perform driving duties. Lamborghini were in possession of an Arancio example that had been crashed. A matching color example was then selected from the production line: 3586.
Car was delivered to the set by Lamborghini sales department employee, Enzo Moruzzi. He drove the Miura as a stunt double for Rossano Brazzi, who played Roger Beckerman in the movie.
After filming, it returned to the factory and was sold to its first owner. Its destination was Zani Marini, the Lamborghini distributor for... Rome. Marini sold 3586 to his boss, Norberto Ferretti.
Precisely how long Norberto Ferretti kept the Miura is unclear. He repurchased 3586 a second time in 2005 and retained it until 2013. Next year, the car was sold to British Lamborghini specialist, Iain Tyrrell. It entered the collection of Fritz Kaiser in 2018.
Until then, what Miura was used in the opening scene remained a mystery. For the 50th anniversary of the film, the Polo Storico Lamborghini carried out the investigation. By going through the archives and interviewing former employees, the manufacturer managed to identify it.
We were able to (re)discover it in 2022 at Chantilly Arts & Elegance.
