The 1966 Honda RC166 featured one of the most iconic and advanced Grand Prix motorcycle engines of its time: a 250cc inline six-cylinder four-stroke. This incredibly compact and high-revving engine produced around 60 horsepower at an astonishing 18,000 rpm, showcasing Honda’s engineering excellence during the golden era of racing. It had dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), four valves per cylinder, and six individual carburetors—one for each cylinder—making it a technical marvel of the 1960s.

Despite its small displacement, the RC166 engine delivered exceptional performance thanks to its smooth powerband and incredible ability to rev. It was mated to a 7-speed gearbox, which helped keep the engine in its optimal power range during races. This engine powered Honda to domination in the 250cc World Championship, most notably under the control of Mike Hailwood, and remains one of the most celebrated engines in motorcycle racing history.
