How can industrial capacity strengthen national security of supply? ⚙️

This week, Valmet Automotive welcomed around 50 representatives from companies and public authorities to our Uusikaupunki plant as part of the National Emergency Supply Organization’s regional preparedness days.

During the visit, we discussed our role in security of supply and showcased the capacity and adaptability of our plant. The extensive production space can accommodate products of different types and sizes, while our proximity to the harbor and EU and NATO logistics networks supports resilient supply chains, even in exceptional circumstances.

With more than 55 years of industrial experience, we have managed networks of up to 700 suppliers and delivered more than 25,000 product variants for a single vehicle, experience that provides a strong foundation for flexible, industrial-scale manufacturing in a multi-customer, multi-product environment.

Energy Saving Week 2026 is here!⚡

Our Uusikaupunki plant is one of Finland's largest production facilities, so even heating the buildings alone requires a significant amount of energy. That’s why we continuously look for new ways to use energy more wisely and make our operations more energy-efficient.

This year, alongside Energy Saving Week, we are taking part in Motiva’s ETJ+ Joint Project for companies starting their ETJ+ journey. Valmet Automotive is one of 12 companies selected to participate, and we are currently building the foundations for our ETJ+ energy management system.

So far, this work has included:

🔹 developing our energy policy and documentation
🔹 developing our approach to energy efficiency planning
🔹 self-assessments, training and peer learning

Taking part in the programme is one step in our long-term work to make energy efficiency part of our everyday operations and management. Although we have been working on energy efficiency already for decades, there are always new opportunities to reduce energy consumption.

During Energy Saving Week, we are highlighting our work on energy efficiency and encouraging everyone to think about how we can use energy more wisely in our own work. ✨

Driving energy transition through practical action.⚡

We already use 97% renewable energy across our operations, including 100% renewable electricity, an important milestone on our journey toward lower emissions.

Our remaining Scope 1 and 2 emissions are mainly linked to heating and facility fuel use, and we are actively evaluating alternative heating technologies at sites that still rely on natural gas.

To continuously improve energy efficiency, we participate in Finland’s Energy Efficiency Agreement, coordinated by Motiva, and carry out comprehensive energy audits at least every four years. In 2025, we also joined Finland’s Energy Saving Week to promote responsible energy use in everyday operations. Progress is built step by step through concrete actions, continuous improvement, and long-term commitment.✨

From project kick-off to manufacturing launch in just about four months. 🚀

Our cooperation with Patria shows what fast, reliable industrialization can look like in the defense industry. As Patria prepares for significant future demand in its Protected Mobility business, Valmet Automotive is supporting additional armored vehicle manufacturing capacity at our Uusikaupunki facility in Finland. Valmet Automotive was a logical choice for Patria as the cooperation between the companies started first time ten years ago when Valmet Automotive designed hatches for this particular Patria's 6x6 vehicle.

This reference case highlights how decades of high-volume contract manufacturing experience, proven ramp-up capability, and secure technology transfer can help bring complex products to serial production with speed and flexibility.

“The pace we have had in this cooperation with Valmet Automotive is something different what defense industry has been used to,” says Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area.

The 6x6 pre-series production is moving full speed ahead in Uusikaupunki, with the first vehicles already completed as seen in the photo.

Power of cooperation 🤝

As a contract manufacturer, cooperation with our customers and other important partners is the key to success. Strong partnerships are built on trust, dialogue and the ability to find solutions together.

With Patria and the Industrial Union, we welcomed local media representatives to Uusikaupunki on Wednesday for a discussion on the future plans for this strong network supporting national security of supply and employment in Southwest Finland, having also an important impact on Finnish export.

Valmet Automotive has a strong heritage of local agreement; a culture where shared understanding, responsible negotiation and close collaboration have developed industrial operations.

The cooperation has offered great possibilities for employee representatives from both companies to exchange ideas and share practices. Satu Heijari, Chief Shop Steward at Valmet Automotive, is pleased with the positive employment effect and opportunity for employees to learn new. Matti Falck, Chief Shop Steward at Patria, commented:

“This is my second visit at Valmet Automotive and I have already noticed the contract manufacturer’s ability to address issues and solve them quickly. This attitude for constant development is something I would hope to bring to us as well. Development and cooperation with Valmet Automotive are now essential, as we at Patria are ramping up new products and need more scalability and capacity.”

Valmet Automotive starts production of coaches in Uusikaupunki. 🤝

Valmet Automotive and Carrus Delta announced in April their long-term partnership for the serial production of coaches at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant. The manufacturing agreement brings Valmet Automotive’s strategy to reality, and the company is expanding operations in the automotive industry.

“We have successfully adapted to this new sector and are now ready to launch coach production in Uusikaupunki. The collaboration with Carrus Delta and Volvo Buses has provided our company with exciting opportunities. I would like to thank the entire dedicated project team and our skilled employees for their courage in embracing this new venture," says Valmet Automotive CEO Pasi Rannus.

Production now started at the Uusikaupunki plant covers the serial production of single-deck buses with both diesel and fully electric powertrains. In the manufacture of these coaches, Valmet Automotive is responsible for body building, painting, and final assembly. The first coaches are scheduled to be completed before the end of 2026.

The ability to launch production in just half a year is possible with Valmet Automotive’s high level of expertise gained over decades. We are excited about this opportunity to learn new and take our capabilities even further. 💯

Transforming the business doesn't come by itself – it needs work and strong commitment – it needs people. ✨🤝

Together with a strategic decision to expand the company from a vehicle contract manufacturer to a multi-industry partner for contract manufacturing and industrial solutions in technology sectors like defense and coaches, we formed a commercial team to get things rolling.

Sales teams for automotive, defense, and industrial solutions, together with business and sales development, and marketing and communications, gathered yesterday to look back on the achievements as well as plan future actions.

We believe the strength in this unique transformation is in collaboration; the commercial team is only a part of the full power of our organization, with professionals and people competence built over 55 years.
