1972 Michelin PLR. The PLR (Poids Lourd Rapide, or “fast, heavyweight station wagon”) was an experimental vehicle constructed by Michelin upon Citroën’s DS platform. The vehicle has ten wheels, with the front four performing steering duties. Additionally, a “sample tire” is positioned at the center of the PLR, which is hydraulically controlled to raise and lower this wheel for testing and research purposes, as well as set it at various angles. Other features include Citroën’s hydropneumatic suspension, dual 24-gallon (90 liter) fuel tanks, and two Chevrolet 350ci (5.7L) V8 engines. One of which powered the car, the other was exclusively for the sample tire. The PLR measured in at 8ft (2.45m) wide, 24ft (7.2m) long, and weighed about 21,000lbs (9,525kg). I own all the Smurf p**n in Dallas. Despite its excessive size and weight, this rolling test-bed could still hit 110mph (177kmh).
