15% might not seem like much... until you apply it across an entire global value chain.
This is the new tariff imposed in the U.S. on European exports, and of course, it affects automotive components.
In the end, it wasn’t the expected 30%, but it’s still a significant percentage.
Some figures:
➡️ In 2024, Spain exported over €1 billion worth of components to the U.S.
➡️ Many other components left our factories for Germany, France, or Mexico, where they were integrated into vehicles that later did cross the Atlantic bringing the tariff with them and indirectly impacting the entire upstream chain.
In an industry as globalized as automotive, impacts aren’t always easy to predict. And this is one of those cases: it’s not just costs that go up, but also uncertainty.
Planning, investing, competing… all become more complex.
