Step 9: End of Line Testing

100% Testing. Every Caliper. No Exceptions.

Every remanufactured BUDWEG caliper undergoes a full end of line test performed by trained technicians:

Functional & dimensional testing

• Compressed air test at 23 ±2 bar
• Test block tolerance verification (±0.3 mm)
• Piston rollback validation
• Handbrake lever movement checks (3–5 mm)

Visual & identification checks

• Casting code
• Left/right configuration
• Correct assembly
• Lubrication and sealing surfaces

Product validation

This is the final step before the caliper is prepared for delivery - ensuring BUDWEG quality in every brake caliper.

Step 8: Incoming Quality Check

Before proceeding to the final test stage:

• Incoming inspection according to ISO standards.
• Critical dimensions are verified
• Results are registered in internal systems for long-term traceability

This ensures only approved components make it to final assembly and testing.

Step 7: Assembly

Precise Work by Skilled Technicians

Assembly follows detailed work instructions, bill of materials, and documented torque and lubrication specifications:

• Greasing of axles, pistons, guide bushings, and rubber components
• Dimensional checks of every batch of spare parts

This ensures every caliper is built with consistency and precision.

Step 6: Traceability

Traceability is built into every BUDWEG caliper:

• Laser, needle, or label-based marking, providing all essential identification details
• Every batch of spare parts is inspected and marked with item number, bar code, date code, supplier initials, and quantity

This guarantees complete tracking from production to installation.

Step 5: Remanufacturing

Restoring OE Performance

In this stage, critical mechanical areas are remanufactured:
• All threads are recut
• Brass bushings are replaced
• Worn bushing areas are machined and fitted with new Teflon bushings
• Aluminum housings may need grinding of the piston bores and claws to restore OE dimensions

Each caliper receives the mechanical attention required to meet BUDWEG’s specifications for quality, functionality and durability.

Step 4: Electroplating

Every BUDWEG caliper housing goes through a documented electroplating process:

• Base layer: acid zinc
• Passivation: Cr3 (trivalent chrome)
• Minimum coating thickness: 8 µm
• Fully automated closed-loop plating line
• Regular salt spray testing performed on sample units

This ensures consistent surface protection and a high-quality finish.

🔍 Improving Traceability in Remanufactured Brake Calipers

As part of our continued focus on quality, transparency, and full product traceability, we are initiating a test phase for an improved marking solution on our brake calipers.

Purpose of the Change
✅ Enhance readability and durability of product information
✅ Support more efficient tracking throughout the value chain
✅ Ensure consistent product identification independent of surface structure

The test applies to brake calipers remanufactured in Denmark and does not affect specifications, performance, or logistics.
