One of the rarest Styling Garage creations: the **SGS St. Tropez**, a four-door convertible based on the Mercedes-Benz 190E.

It kept the elegant proportions and everyday character of the W201, but opened the car in a way that made it unmistakably different.

Ever heard of SGS Scissor Doors?

No? These are not just “Lambo doors”.

Take a look at this video. It may be a little older, but that does not make it any less impressive.

The SGS Scissor Doors by Styling Garage rotate within the hinge mechanism, making them extremely space-saving. At the same time, they met all the safety requirements of their era.

Here you can see how they work on a Mercedes-Benz R230 SL 55 AMG.

A rare piece of Honda and Acura history.

This is a Honda Legend Coupé Convertible — a very special official Honda/Acura design study based on the second-generation Legend Coupé, known in North America as the Acura Legend Coupé.

The second-generation Legend was introduced for the 1991 model year and represented Honda’s serious move into the international premium segment. With its elegant coupé proportions, refined engineering and 3.2-litre V6, it became one of the most sophisticated Japanese luxury coupés of its time.

But this car went one step further.

The convertible study was built in Germany by Styling Garage, which at that time operated under the engineering office name Design & Technik. This was not simply an aftermarket roof conversion or a tuning project. Design & Technik was officially registered with Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, the KBA, as a recognized vehicle manufacturer entity.

For international readers: the KBA is Germany’s federal authority for vehicle type approval, manufacturer registration and official vehicle documentation. In simple terms, this means Design & Technik had the official manufacturer status required for serious vehicle engineering work in Germany.

The result was a fascinating German-Japanese collaboration: Honda and Acura’s refined luxury coupé, transformed into an elegant open-top study by one of Germany’s specialist coachbuilding and engineering companies.

What makes this prototype so special is how naturally it respects the original Legend Coupé. The long bonnet, clean side profile, discreet luxury character and carefully developed soft-top roofline all preserve the dignity of the Honda design. Nothing looks excessive. Nothing looks forced. It feels like a car Honda could have offered itself.

The rear view tells you a lot about this car.

When Styling Garage built this Mercedes-Benz S-Class estate conversion, they did not simply take the easy route. Many estate conversions of that era used rear lights from a W123 or W124 wagon because they were available and practical.

This one is different.

The rear end was designed around the original S-Class tail lights, preserving the character of the W126 and giving the car a much more elegant, factory-like appearance. It still looks like an S-Class, not like a compromise.

That is exactly what makes this conversion so special: the details, the proportions and the respect for the original design.

What were you supposed to do in 1985 if you wanted a Mercedes estate with a 5.0-litre V8?

Mercedes-Benz did not offer one. So you went to Styling Garage and had one built.

But simply welding on a rear section? Not quite. On the W126, the fuel tank sits behind the rear seat, so it had to be relocated. Along with many other modifications, reinforcements and details that had to be engineered properly.

The result was not just a conversion, but a very special Mercedes-Benz estate with presence, power and character.

And it still looks fantastic today, doesn’t it?

Dazu wird auch eine Kunstgalerie Einzug halten. Automobile Kultur, Technik, Design und Kunst unter einem Dach.

Our technical prototype model of the Mercedes Gullwing has completed its current duties in our workshop.

For now, it will return to storage until the next SGS Gullwing is built at Styling Garage, or until an existing vehicle is modernized with our new system.

This prototype has been an important part of our development work. It helped us test technical solutions, refine details and prepare the next stage of the SGS Gullwing project.

Now it is carefully stored away, ready to be used again when the next chapter begins.
