Aston Martin V8 Vantage V550

In 1993, based on earlier model series, the more powerful Vantage version was presented. Compared to the normal Virage, there was a major facelift at the same time with four round taillights instead of the lamps from the VW Scirocco II and three headlight units per side under clear glass covers instead of the components from the Audi 200. In addition, the designers integrated new side ventilation openings in the front fenders. Originally they wanted to use the headlight units of the then current Corvette C4, but had to abandon this plan after General Motors prohibited any use of parts. They did not want to provide the Ford group with any data about components. For this reason, the transmission variants previously installed in the Virage were also eliminated. Instead, Reynard made a manual six-speed gearbox on behalf of Aston Martin. Under the bonnet there was now a 5.3-liter V8 engine, which came to 550 hp and 746 Newton meters of torque via double supercharging including an intercooler. This made the Virage Vantage the second most powerful British-produced model at the time, reaching a top speed of 305 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 in 4.6 seconds. The technicians also improved the strength of the engine block and the cooling. When it comes to the chassis, the design principles of the previous V8 Vantage model have been returned to, but modern spring-damper units ensure that the tuning is 25 percent stiffer than the Virage.

The Alpina B10 Biturbo exceeded the Lotus Omega in terms of top speed, but the Lotus Omega achieved better values when it came to acceleration.
