Press photos: Saab 9-5 SportCombi (1999)

The 1999 Saab model year was special from a press photography perspective. It marked the last recorded activity of the Saab “Picture & Art” service. Presumably, the department, located in a large industrial building in Vänersborg, was dissolved for cost reasons following GM's complete takeover of Saab Automobile.

This also changed the way press photography was presented, becoming noticeably more conventional. But before that, Swedish photographers reached their peak for the last time. Perhaps because they didn't have to be careful and sensed the impending closure, some of the photos became highly artistic.

Förde Car Service has moved – a look inside the Saab workshop

In September, “Förde Car Service” moved into a new, purpose-built building. The constantly increasing demand had necessitated the relocation; the old location had become too small. At Lise-Meitner-Str. 4 in Schwentinental, there is now ample space for the future of Saab service and room for years to come.

Demand isn't decreasing; the Saab brand is currently undergoing a transformation and is noticeably rejuvenating itself. Very young customers are complementing the established core clientele. The Swedish cars have a cult following, and a new group of buyers is currently discovering the Saab 9-3 NG for themselves.

Saab dealer tour 2011: a visit to Etehad in Halstenbeck

Etehad! I come from southern Germany, but Etehad's excellent reputation has spread far beyond the Main River, so the Saab partner in Halstenbeck raised high expectations for me. Etehad has been a dealer for our beloved Swedish cars for 31 years, and his enthusiasm hasn't waned in the slightest.

Among Saab partners, Halstenbeck is what you'd call a "big name." They sell a lot of vehicles, and their influence on the dealer council shouldn't be underestimated. The meeting will therefore be interesting.

Test report: Saab 96, the rally winner with the hump

Germany, 1979. In Sweden, it's as well-known as the VW Beetle is here. And it's almost as old as the Wolfsburg success story: the Saab 96. It's the first car model from the Swedish company, which had only manufactured aircraft until the end of World War II. The Saab for the road has been built since 1949.

A Saab Viggen convertible: the stuff that pilots' dreams are made of!

What's the best way to drive a Saab Viggen? Certainly the convertible, because here you experience the elements, enjoy the wind in your hair, and feel pure speed. A Viggen convertible would be the ultimate passion for this exceptional Saab. In fact, it's said that the proportion of professional pilots among new car buyers was once particularly high. Or so they say.

It would be understandable. Where could you get a car back then, and where can you get one now, with the name and logo of a fighter jet? With the aircraft's insignia on both fenders, on the leather seats, on the engine, and in other places? However, the Saab 9-3 Viggen Cabriolet wasn't just a marketing gimmick. It backed up its claim with performance and sportiness.

Buy counter-cyclically: a summer-green Saab 9-3 SE Anniversary Convertible

Going against the grain is usually good advice. Buy when others are selling. With stocks, for example. Or: bring home a summer-green Saab 9-3 SE Anniversary Cabriolet when the autumn storm is raging outside and everyone else is putting their open-top Saabs into winter storage. Besides, the Saab 9-3 OG is almost a classic; the first examples are approaching 30 years old.

It's not a bad idea to look for a good example. Well-maintained, with as few kilometers as possible and just as few previous owners. And of course, with particularly nice features.
