Joan Mir’s 2021 Suzuki GSX-RR Ecstar Suzuki Team
The 2021 Suzuki GSX-RR is a 1,000cc inline-four prototype racing motorcycle used by the Suzuki Ecstar team with riders Joan Mir and Alex Rins. This season, the GSX-RR has a new livery with Monster Energy sponsorship and Suzuki's most iconic racing color, Metallic Triton Blue & Solarize Silver Metallic, to celebrate Suzuki's 60th anniversary in the racing world. This combination is inspired by Ernst Degner's racing motorcycle when he won the 50cc class in 1962. In the 2021 MotoGP season, Joan Mir finished third in the final standings. Despite coming in as the defending champion after his victory in 2020, Mir failed to defend his title due to the development of the Suzuki GSX-RR motorcycle, which was considered slightly behind its competitors. Mir managed to reach the podium six times throughout the season. He collected enough points to secure third place overall, behind Francesco Bagnaia (runner-up) and Fabio Quartararo (champion). Despite having the right to use the number "1" as the defending champion, Mir chose to stick with his favorite number, #36. Mir was surprised by his performance which was not as dominant as the previous season, although he felt he had ridden better. This is often attributed to the lack of a rear holeshot device on the Suzuki motorcycle at the start of the season compared to other teams.
