2026 Automotive Updates, Parking Changes & Car Advisor News
Dear clients,
I hope your car batteries survived the freezing start of the new year and that your first drives were trouble-free. With the cold beginning of the year come several important changes for drivers in the Czech Republic, so I’ve put together an overview of what’s new, along with a few updates from Car Advisor.
We Are Now Part of INSIA Insurance Brokers
I’m pleased to announce that we are now a member of INSIA, a.s. – Insurance, Intelligence and Assistance.
This means I can now prepare insurance offers from all insurance companies in the Czech Republic, often resulting in lower premiums. No more odometer photos are required, and no more ridiculous “driving-range-based” premium calculations.
In addition to motor insurance, I can also arrange property and household insurance, travel insurance, and one-time EU roadside and breakdown assistance. You can email me directly [email protected] for a quote.
Why arrange insurance through me? You will always have a direct contact who can assist with claims, contract changes, and deadlines. Please note that the standard notice period for insurance contracts is 5 weeks, so feel free to contact me early if you’d like help reviewing or terminating your current policy.
Highway Tolls
The price of an annual highway pass has increased from 2,440 CZK to 2,570 CZK. Plug-in hybrids, EVs, and CNG/LNG-powered vehicles will now pay 480 CZK per year.
If you plan to use highways or Prague’s ring road, make sure to purchase your electronic vignette in time. Avoid unofficial sellers and potential scams, and purchase only via www.edalnice.cz, where you can also check the expiration date of your current vignette.
EV Vehicles & Parking Zones
Free parking for EVs in Prague ends on 1 January 2026. Fully electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles will be eligible for a 50% discount on residential (blue) zones and visitor (orange and purple) zones, but only after registration. Hybrid vehicles will lose all parking benefits.
Vehicle registration for parking discounts can be completed at parking.praha.eu. Discounts apply to both long-term resident parking and short-term visitor parking via mobile apps such as Citymove.
Planned Holidays Before the Spring Season
It has been a while since I’ve taken a proper break, and both my family and I could use one ?? I will be out of the Czech Republic from March 5 to March 23, with no access to phone or data.
If possible, please plan any services or MOT inspections before March. I will be sending out a spring service offer at the beginning of April.
