The trailer can also be part of the electric powertrain.

Electrified trailers are being explored as a way to add electric drive, energy recovery, and auxiliary power to semi-trailer trucks.

An electric trailer can use an e-axle and battery system to provide additional traction and recover braking energy. With coordinated control between the tractor and trailer, the system can also help with:

• Improved traction under heavy-load conditions
• Additional regenerative braking
• Reduced fuel or energy consumption
• Power supply for refrigeration and other auxiliary equipment
• Better stability and control of the tractor-trailer combination

The engineering challenge is not simply adding a motor and battery to the trailer. Tractor–trailer control, electrical architecture, weight distribution, and payload all need to be considered together.

Our electrified trailer solution integrates the e-axle, controller, and battery system, with hardware and software developed around the complete vehicle combination.

For commercial electric vehicles, battery integration is often a packaging challenge.

Limited chassis space, high energy requirements, payload targets, and safety expectations all need to be considered together.

Blade Battery technology provides a different approach through its cell-to-pack (CTP) design, reducing unnecessary structural components and improving space utilization compared with traditional battery pack architectures.

For commercial applications such as electric trucks, buses, and specialty vehicles, this enables:

● Higher energy capacity within limited installation space
● Improved pack integration efficiency
● Reduced system complexity
● Enhanced safety performance with LFP chemistry

At Brogen, we provide Blade Battery solutions tailored for commercial EV platforms, including battery pack integration, BMS, thermal management, and vehicle-level matching.

From light commercial vehicles to heavy-duty applications, the right battery architecture helps OEMs achieve a better balance between range, payload, reliability, and cost.

For light trucks, vans, and pickups, vehicle space, cost, and system integration are always key engineering challenges.

Our integrated e-powertrain combines the traction motor, gearbox, and motor controller into one compact unit, helping vehicle manufacturers simplify drivetrain layout while improving overall system efficiency.

By integrating key components into a shared architecture, the system reduces unnecessary wiring, lowers weight, and minimizes potential electromagnetic interference between components. The compact design also provides more flexibility for battery packaging and vehicle platform development.

📌 Key advantages include:

● 60 kW continuous power and 120 kW peak power output
● 280 N·m peak motor torque
● High-speed PMSM design with up to 12,000 rpm
● IP67 protection for commercial vehicle applications
● Integrated motor, reducer, and controller design for easier vehicle integration

The system is designed for light commercial vehicle applications including vans, pickups, and light-duty trucks, where efficiency, reliability, and packaging flexibility are critical.

As LCV electrification continues to develop, integrated e-powertrain architectures will help OEMs accelerate platform development and reduce system complexity.

🔋 Battery technology isn't only about new cells or faster charging. The way a battery is integrated into the vehicle can be just as important.

One example is SANY's Magic Tower 1165, introduced in 2023. Rather than stacking multiple independent battery packs behind the cab, it adopted a Module-to-Chassis (MTC) architecture, allowing the battery to become part of the vehicle structure.

That design solves several practical problems found in large battery systems.

Traditional heavy-duty battery packs each have their own enclosure, mounting structure, and thermal management. As battery capacity increases, those repeated structures add weight and occupy valuable installation space.

Integrating the battery with the chassis removes much of that redundancy. It also gives engineers more freedom when designing thermal management, vehicle packaging, and weight distribution.

Once battery capacities reach hundreds of kilowatt-hours—or even exceed 1 MWh—small improvements in packaging efficiency can have a noticeable impact on vehicle performance.

Battery architecture is becoming another area where OEMs can differentiate their platforms, alongside cell chemistry, motors, and charging technology.

At Brogen, we continue to follow developments like these while providing battery systems for commercial vehicles, marine applications, and off-highway equipment. We believe future battery systems will be driven not only by better cells, but also by smarter system integration.

For decades, the trailer has been passive.

It carried the cargo, while the tractor handled all the work.

Electrification is changing that.

By adding an electric drive system to the trailer, part of the traction demand can be shared during acceleration and climbing. Braking energy can also be recovered instead of being lost, helping improve overall vehicle efficiency.

Our electrified trailer solution integrates the battery system, e-axle, control system, and vehicle communication into a complete platform that can be adapted to different heavy-duty transport applications.

It's another option for fleets and OEMs looking to improve efficiency without completely redesigning the vehicle.

Interested in trailer electrification? We'd be happy to discuss your project.

A heavy-duty truck doesn't operate under a single condition.

Loaded starts, steep grades, urban traffic, and highway cruising all place different demands on the drivetrain. Optimizing for one operating condition often means compromising another.

A multi-speed AMT gives the powertrain more flexibility by keeping the motor operating in a more suitable speed range across different driving conditions. The result is stronger launch performance, better gradeability, and improved energy efficiency during highway operation.

For vocational trucks, integrated PTO capability also makes it easier to power hydraulic pumps and other auxiliary equipment without adding complex mechanical layouts.

At Brogen, we provide integrated Motor + 2-speed / 4-speed AMT e-powertrain solutions for commercial vehicles from 12 to over 40 tons, including rigid trucks, dump trucks, mixer trucks, and tractor units. Our systems have been validated through bench testing, vehicle testing, and real-world commercial applications, with a focus on reliability and long-term operation.

If you're evaluating e-powertrain options for your next heavy-duty vehicle platform, feel free to get in touch with our team.

When planning an electric commercial vehicle, battery capacity is often one of the first specifications discussed.

But the biggest battery isn't always the best solution.

An oversized battery adds weight, increases cost, and reduces payload, while an undersized battery may struggle to meet the required duty cycle.

The right battery starts with understanding the application:

● Daily mileage
● Payload
● Route profile
● Charging opportunities
● Ambient temperature

At Brogen, we design battery systems around real operating conditions. Our solutions integrate the battery pack, BMS, BTMS, and PDU into a complete system tailored to each vehicle platform, helping OEMs balance performance, reliability, and total cost of ownership.

If you're planning a commercial EV project, we'd be happy to discuss the right battery architecture for your application.

Port and terminal vehicles operate differently from road-going trucks.
Frequent acceleration, heavy loads, low-speed operation, and continuous working hours create unique requirements for the electric powertrain.

📌 Key factors include:
● High torque capability for loaded starts
● Reliable thermal performance during continuous operation
● Efficient energy recovery during frequent braking
● Durable drivetrain design for demanding duty cycles

Unlike long-haul transportation, range is not always the biggest challenge in port applications.

Vehicle uptime, operating efficiency, and system reliability are often the primary considerations.

Successful electrification starts with understanding the work cycle first, then designing the right powertrain around it.
