More global efforts are needed around the optimization, regulation and demand creation for the production and use of as a green energy vector, if we are to get on track with Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario.

This is one of the conclusions of a report on Hydrogen by the International Energy Agency (@ internationalenergyagency) from September 2022.

We’re happy to see one of our target partner markets is doing a lot in this field. Japanese Toshiba led the launch in 2020 of the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field, better known as . This is today’s largest hydrogen production plant, which uses solar power to produce green hydrogen for industrial use, including in .

Multilateral cooperation in this area has grown in the past one year in efforts to stimulate the research, development, regulation and deployment of key hydrogen technologies, with initiatives like the Breakthrough Agenda, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, and the Hydrogen Action Pact.

However, the report states that there is an urgent need to stimulate demand for -emissions hydrogen and to demonstrate the key hydrogen technologies, so that they can deliver CO2 emission savings at scale by 2030.

At ZESST by Almatech we are proud to contribute to these efforts by showcasing purposeful deployment of hydrogen in green water transport solutions which are not only innovative and sustainable, but also exceptionally comfortable and attractive.

Today, we’re imagining ZESST ferries in the waters of !

Recently, we spoke about Eurostat’s report on European with the highest passenger traffic. Many Greek ports figured high on this list, so we wanted to see how long it would take to some of the busiest water ways in Greece on our ZESST -powered fast .

Three Greek ports of the Gulf found their place on this list: , the main port of , , from the same Piraeus region, and Paloukia , in the nearby Salamis Island. These are all very close and frequented by locals as well as the many tourists that visit the Greek capital.

A bit longer route, not as busy but still quite important, is the one connecting Piraeus to , the main port of the Islands. This water way of 19 nautical miles would take our ZESST ferries 42 minutes of comfortable cruise.

Would you like to sail with us to Athens? 😊

We always like to start the year reminiscing some of the fun moments from last one. 😊

Here’s a shout out to , the team behind the incredible water creature of tomorrow: a boat!

The team is made up of about fifty bachelor and master students from and the High School of Engineering and Management of the Canton of Vaud -VD who share a common vision for the future: the creation of a new world.

Dahu is the team’s latest invention – the solar-powered boat based on a prao with the addition of three T-shaped hydrofoils which contribute to its stability and efficiency.

We are proud to have supported the students' initiative with our knowledge of hydrofoils and optimal materials use, drawn from our experience in engineering. We’re also happy to feature among the team’s sponsors next to prominent players in the sustainable energy industry, like and , proving that together we can bring closer the future of sustainable transport.

“I am looking for a lot of people who have an infinite capacity to not know what can’t be done.” — Henry Ford

If we told you we’ve made a ship that flies on water, what would you say?

Every great starts by thinking outside of what we already know and how we usually behave.

Henry Ford revolutionized the automotive industry of the 20th century by making motor vehicles more accessible for everyday use to a larger number of people.

At ZESST, we strive to bring and water vessels accessible to visionary groups and individuals with a passion for comfortable environmentaly friendly solutions. ZESST boats glide on water using , powered by and emitting no .

ZESST Precursor comfortably fits up to six passengers, providing them an exceptional cruising experience in a uniquely elegant design at speeds of up to 55km/h.

ZESST Pax is a fully modular solution for public transport which can carry from 50 to 400 passengers, while emitting no harmful substances.

After visiting Monte Carlo last month, we’re in the mood for ! 🇮🇹

, in Sicily, and , in the Italian mainland, have topped the list of busiest European for the second year in a row, according to ’s report on passenger statistics for 2021. We wondered how much our -powered would take to cruise these beautiful ports.

Sicily 🍋 is the largest and most populated island in the . Naturally, ferries crossing the famous Strait of Messina are busy like ants in summer. Can you imagine how beneficial it would be for the area if this huge traffic would be replaced by greener alternatives? ZESST vessels would cover the 6 nautical miles between the two ferry ports in less than 15 minutes at an average speed of 24 knots.

🌶 also ranked high on Eurostat’s list of busiest ports. Most of its traffic is with the islands of and . ZESST ferries can cover the distances to these islands of 16 and 18 nautical miles respectively in 35 and 40 minutes.

Finally, among the 20 most frequented ports on the mentioned list are also , in Tuscany 🫒, which has busy traffic with Isola d'Elba across the Canale di Piombino.

We can’t wait to see ZESST vessels cruising the wonderful Mediterranean waters in these beautiful ports! 🚤

Last week we were honoured to participate in the first edition of the Monaco Hydrogen Forum as one of the 8 finalists for the Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transportation!

The jury of the Monaco Hydrogen Alliance chose the top eight solutions for their achievements in terms of , and cross-sector .

The Forum was the chance for the key global stakeholders of the emerging ecosystem to meet and discuss the ways to support and accelerate innovation across the hydrogen value chain.

The first day of the event was focused on innovative solutions that can revolutionize in different sectors, while the second day hosted discussions on the challenges of producing hydrogen with sources, i.e., hydrogen.

We’re more than happy to have taken part in these crucial discussions, and we look forward to working together with other participants of this important event to bring closer a safe future of sustainable green .

It’s been amazing visiting Kobe, Japan, where we took part in the Challenge – an accelerator for Japanese and international start-ups tackling the Sustainable Development Goals in various ways.

Japan is a society which is doing a lot in the field of and green , and a trendsetter for the Asian market. As such, it’s one of our favorite and most promising partners and we’re happy to have established contacts with different institutions and private actors from Japan. More on some of them in our future posts!

It’s a long way to go, but we’re also getting excited for the World 2025 in , which will be the perfect venue for us to showcase our disruptive, ecological and silent modular for up to 400 passengers – ZESST Pax.

In the meantime, we’re working hard with our partners to engineer more of the innovative solutions. Stay tuned!

How important is sustainable water transport in Switzerland?

Introducing zero-emission fast ferries on Lake Geneva could reduce the travel distance by 75% compared to land route, and the travel time by 53 minutes, while saving 10,000 tons of CO2 annually!

If we look at the population density map of Switzerland, we can see that the most populated areas gravitate around lakes and big rivers: Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne.

This implies that much of the land transport can be taken over by water means. But instead of the existing solutions which are a big source of air pollution and GHG emissions, both on ground and water, we need sustainable emissions-free alternatives, like ZESST. 🏢

In Lake Geneva region, over 200,000 workers drive between France and Switzerland every day. The distance between Thonon-les-bains and Lausanne is 78 km along ground routes, and takes at least 1h20m to cross, without accounting for traffic jams. 🚗🚕

On the other hand, the water way connecting these points is only 19 km long. Today, there is certainly an existing fast ferry line that travels only 27 minutes, but it uses fossil fuel. 🚢

Introducing zero-emission fast ferries on this route could reduce the travel distance by 75% and the travel time by 53 minutes. While saving 10,000 tons of CO2 annually! 🌳

The potential for maritime transport today is still under-exploited, mainly due to the lack of eco-friendly, economical, comfortable and attractive solutions on the market. ZESST is here to bring the solution for greener transport of tomorrow!
