Just launched for sale: the ex-Gianni Bulgari 1964 Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, chassis 080.

“Enzo Ferrari was kind enough to say in an interview that I was the most promising gentleman driver. I was actually normally talented, but average by today’s standards.”

A typically modest reflection from Roman jeweller and racing driver Gianni Bulgari.

His final competition car in a succession of great machines that included a Ferrari 250 GTO, this Porsche 904 was delivered new to Bulgari in Rome and driven on the streets of the Italian capital before heading to the 1964 Targa Florio. He led the race before suspension damage forced retirement.

Just weeks later, Bulgari drove chassis 080 to outright victory at Mugello against three Ferrari 250 GTOs, including two 1964-specification cars.

Sold in 1965 as Bulgari retired from racing, the 904 passed to American driver Sam Posey, who campaigned it successfully at Daytona and Bridgehampton before selling it on. Acquired by a European collector in 1988, it has remained in single ownership for the past 38 years.

A famous Porsche with exceptional history, wonderful usability and eligibility for many of the world’s greatest historic events.

Available now.

Who remembers assembling Airfix kits as a kid? Here’s the grown-up version!

This collection of McLaren F1 components was the passion project of a retired English bank manager and engineer who loved cars and especially McLarens. He helped the factory out in his spare time, delivering cars and parts and even occasionally sharing a sandwich with George Harrison when returning his F1 after servicing (“a genuinely nice man”). Over time he’d been given unwanted F1 wheels, bodywork and anything else that took up storage space and might otherwise have been scrapped when McLaren moved facilities. The items were proudly displayed in his workshop to show visitors until his passing, and a year later his family decided they took up too much space and called us.

Thinking of a fun way to showcase them, we had a British film prop company create this garage wall-scale Airfix kit. It’s now time to give it a new home, so if your garage needs a conversation piece, please reach out!

The second and final day of the Concorso moved across to Villa Erba, where the lawn became even more densely populated as the Broad Arrow auction cars joined the display.

Once again, the event sold out and the public’s energy carried the parade from beginning to end, helped in no small part by sunshine, proud owners and the occasional excessively enthusiastic exhaust note.

This year marked 25 years since Simon first began presenting the Concorso d’Eleganza. A quarter of a century spent memorising stories, owners’ and co-drivers’ names as well as the peculiar details of hundreds upon hundreds of cars, not to mention presenting in English on Saturday and Italian on Sunday. Many in the crowd quietly reached the same conclusion: only Simon could possibly do it.

Until next year, Cernobbio.

Our day one coverage from Villa d’Este captures some of the highlights that makes this weekend so special each year.

Today promises another glorious sunny day as the Concorso moves to Villa Erba, where more than 10,000 enthusiasts will gather for the second act, presented as tradition dictates in Italian this time, by your host Simon Kidston.

Day one at Villa d’Este concluded with the ever popular Coppa d’Oro awarded to a beautifully preserved Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster, complete with its preservation class wooden skis mounted proudly on the boot.

We shall see you tomorrow at Villa Erba for the second act of the Parade.

Mission accomplished. Against all odds, Simon somehow managed to keep this year’s Villa d’Este parade commentary to just under four hours.

What appears beside the lake as a leisurely flow of stories and anecdotes is in reality the result of many hours of preparation each year, as Steve Wakefield and Simon dig through archives, photographs, old correspondence and forgotten details to uncover the history behind every car.

Because at Villa d’Este, no automobile arrives without a story. Some glamorous, some improbable, some nearly lost to time altogether.

Here is a little glimpse behind the scenes before the microphones switched on this afternoon in Cernobbio.

From the sculptural beauty of the Ferrari 250 MM to the astonishing engineering ambition of the Volkswagen W12 Nardò, Villa d’Este continues to celebrate every corner of automotive imagination.

One born from the golden age of endurance racing, the other a remarkable glimpse into what the future once looked like. Two completely different visions, united by rarity, daring and the pursuit of speed.

The rain did little to dampen spirits today as the first cars arrived at Villa d’Este ahead of this weekend’s Concorso d’Eleganza.

From rare prototypes to long-awaited restorations, the atmosphere around Cernobbio is already beginning to build and as always, the setting remains quite unmatched.

We’re looking forward to covering the action throughout the weekend.

Welcome to Cernobbio!
