Driver highlight 027. Ahmed, Targa 4S. “My passion for cars started when I was probably about 10 years old. Growing up in Union, Northern Jersey, there's a big car culture there. A lot of Hondas, Mitsubishis, older Civics, Subaru WRXs and STIs, bubble hatchbacks, all those kinds of things. I think that started to get me into it.
But it started there and got really into just performance and power-to-weight ratios and different tuning and modifications. And then slowly but surely I worked my way into the car business, I worked at a Honda dealership when I was in college. And then after that began working at Audi on the corporate side in 2012, I was about 23 years old, and I stayed in the automotive industry pretty much my whole career. So now I've been in the automotive industry for about 12 years, and I've been bounced around from Audi, now working over at Twitter, leading their automotive strategy. But the throughline is I'm always somehow connected to the car, the product itself, and always finding a way to bring myself towards the product. So I think that really is the growth of the passion that started as a kid with posters on my wall. And now it's literally what I get paid to do is work in the industry. So I really, really appreciate it.”

What a day yesterday! Thank you to everyone who joined our Hudson Valley drive and picnic at .

It felt so good to get out of the city for a bit, drive together in some of the nicest roads in NY and Connecticut (check out photos no. 6 and 7 by ), and then park together at the beautiful lawn near the mansion at Montgomery place.

Big love and appreciation to our sponsors for helping bring our vision to life and for planning and leading the driving portion of the day.

thank you for hosting us.

Driver highlight 026. Johnny, 91’ Honda Acty “Having never been to Japan, I get an odd sense of nostalgia and familiarity from a time beyond my own. It’s so well designed, and (it) genuinely makes me happy every time I drive it. Anemoia is real!”

“When I got into cars, my first experience with something that I really liked, the style, shape, and performance of cars was the English sports cars. My first car being an Austin Healy 100 and then an Austin Healy 3000 after that. And then I saw the JAG. A young lady who graduated from the same college I did and who I had a brief relationship with happened to have a Canary yellow E-type JAG. I was fortunate enough to be able to drive her car from Washington DC to New York City. And that solidified my desire to own this particular model of Jaguar. So at that point, I began my search and found this car in 1971.”

“One of the difficult questions that I have is about memorable moments. There are too many memorable moments to name. One would be driving from New York to California, specifically the George Washington bridge to the golden gate bridge in 58 hours and returning in 56 hours, three weeks later. Another memorable moment would be driving across the country for six weeks and putting 10,200 miles on the car from start to return to New York. And one of the highlights being driving from British Vancouver to Tijuana, Mexico, straight down the west coast. It was an awesome experience. The scenery was like none I'd ever experienced living on the east coast. The roads were great. The highways were pristine and smooth, and the sun was constantly out on this trip for six weeks.” George Sweeper 1969 Jaguar E-type

Driver highlight 023. “My 1966 Mustang belonged to my late mother. My father had it shipped from Puerto Rico in 1987 when I was 7 year old. She was in her 40s at the time. When she was younger in the 60s she raced a 4 speed mustang on the street illegally! Her name was Margie and she called herself Mustang Sally! Back then women didn't race cars, especially in the street! With that said the men she beat didn't like it much and lit her car on fire and burned it to the ground on 3rd Ave and 45th street. Fast forward to 1987 she saw a mustang just like hers on the beach and it had a “for sale” sign on it and jokingly said to my dad ‘hun look at that mustang, you should buy it for me and bring back mustang Sally!’ He replied ‘You’re a crazy woman your racing days are over!’ The next day he brought it for her as an anniversary present.” Today marks 4 years since Margie passed away. May she rest in piece.
