Some trucks are transportation.

Some trucks are part of the equipment.

This week’s **Northern Truck Spotlight** is Stock #31286 — a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD built for the kind of customer whose truck actually has a job to do.

We don’t think every northern driver automatically needs a diesel HD. But when the work involves regular towing, hauling, long runs, remote sites and equipment, the use case changes.

And on this truck, it’s not just about what’s under the hood.

You’ve got gooseneck/5th-wheel prep, a bed-mounted trailer connection, exhaust brake, high-idle capability, upfitter switches and trailer-camera provisions — the sort of equipment that matters when the truck is part of the workday.

Then there’s the other side of it: this is still an LTZ. So the person spending hours behind the wheel doesn’t have to choose between serious capability and a comfortable place to work from.

That’s what we wanted to show with this week’s photos.

No mountain-top glamour shot.

Just a heavy-duty truck photographed in an environment where a heavy-duty truck makes sense.

If you were ordering a truck specifically for work in the North, what would be non-negotiable on your build?

Towing setup? Upfitter controls? Diesel? Crew space? Something else?

Why doesn’t Lund just weld the hull?

It’s a question that comes up when people compare aluminum boats — and it’s a fair one.

At first glance, it can seem like welding every seam must automatically be the stronger or more modern way to build an aluminum boat.

But on many Lund models, double-riveted seam construction is a deliberate engineering choice.

One of the advantages is precision. Lund has long emphasized building an exceptionally straight hull, and its double-riveted construction allows sections of the hull to be joined securely without relying on a continuous welded seam.

Today, Lund uses automated technology to precisely install those double rivets, creating strong, rigid seams while maintaining the shape of the hull.

And Lund puts some confidence behind that construction: its limited structural warranty includes lifetime coverage on double-riveted seams, subject to the terms of the warranty.

The important part, though, is that this isn’t really a debate about riveted versus welded.

Lund uses both.

Some Lund boats are intentionally built using all-welded heavy-gauge construction because that method makes sense for those hulls and applications. Others use the double-riveted construction Lund has been known for for generations.

The better question is:

What construction method makes sense for the boat and the job it was designed to do?

Up North, where boats can mean fishing trips, cabin travel, hunting, hauling gear and long days on big water, understanding how your boat is built matters.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to dig into more of the details behind Lund and Mercury — the things that aren’t always obvious when you’re just looking at boats sitting on a trailer.

Have a Lund or Mercury question you’ve always wondered about? Drop it in the comments. It might be our next topic.

Four Lunds. Four very different ways to spend a day on the water.

If you’ve driven past Yellowknife Motors lately, you’ve probably seen these boats lined up out front.

So what’s actually different about them?

We took a walk through the lineup and broke it down as simply as we could:

Alaskan Tiller — open, fishing-first and built for gear
Explorer Sport — practical, comfortable all-rounder
Alaskan Sport — bigger water, more room and more capability
Crossover XS — fishing, family time and watersports in one boat

There really isn’t one “best” choice. It comes down to how you use your boat.

Comment TILLER, EXPLORER, ALASKAN SPORT or CROSSOVER — or send us a message and tell us how you boat. We’ll help point you in the right direction.

Why do Lund buyers keep buying Lund?

One reason might be that your next Lund doesn’t have to look anything like your last one.

How people use boats changes.

For some northern boaters, an Alaskan Tiller is exactly what makes sense — an open, straightforward layout for fishing, camp gear, remote travel and hunting trips. Up here, boats aren’t always just recreational. They’re transportation, they’re how people access the land, and sometimes they’re how a successful harvest gets back home.

For someone else, the next step might be more windshield protection, more room for longer trips and bigger water, or simply a little more comfort.

And as families change, so does boating. Fishing might still matter, but now the boat also needs to handle cruising, kids, swimming and watersports.

That’s one of the things we like about the Lund lineup.

Your boating can change without necessarily changing brands.

Right now at Yellowknife Motors, you can see that range sitting side-by-side — from the open Alaskan Tiller, through the Explorer and larger Alaskan Sport, to the versatile Crossover XS.

Different boats for very different days on northern water.

And when it’s time to figure out what comes next, being able to see the boats in person, talk through how you actually use them, and have local support after the sale matters too.

If you’ve owned more than one Lund, we’d like to hear from you:
What was your first Lund, what are you running now, and what would you buy next?

Do you actually need a full-size truck to drive a truck in the North?

For a lot of people, maybe not.

This week’s Northern Truck Spotlight is Stock #31932 — the 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss.

The idea behind this one is simple: choose the truck that fits how you actually use it.

The Colorado gives you a mid-size footprint for everyday driving, while the Trail Boss still brings some serious hardware — a 2-inch factory-installed lift, 32-inch all-terrain tires, four selectable drive modes, and Chevrolet’s TurboMax engine with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

For someone whose week is mostly driving around Yellowknife, but whose weekends can mean gravel roads, fishing gear, cabin trips and getting off the pavement, that combination makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes the right northern truck isn’t the biggest truck.

It’s the one that fits your life.

Could you make the move from a full-size to a mid-size truck — or are you full-size for life?

Not every day on the water looks the same. That is exactly where the Lund Crossover earns its name.

Some mornings are for fishing. Some afternoons are for cruising with the family. Some weekends include a run to the cabin, a swim off the boat or pulling someone behind it.

The 2024 Lund 1875 Crossover XS is designed to handle all of it in one well-rounded northern package.

It includes a Mercury 150 XL Pro XS FourStroke, walkthrough windshield, complete Sport Top Set and Lowrance HOOKÂČ 7" with SplitShot. Inside, it combines serious fishing features with comfortable seating, storage and family-friendly equipment for days when fishing is only part of the plan.

20 feet or 22 feet? The right answer depends on what you need to haul.

Both StrongHaul equipment trailers share the same serious foundation: a 14,000-lb GVW, tandem Dexter axles with electric brakes, dual beavertail ramps and a durable Douglas Fir/Larch plank deck.

The difference comes down to how you use the space.

The 20' model offers a more compact footprint, weighs 100 lb less and carries up to 12,080 lb.

The 22' model gives you two additional feet of deck space and two additional standard lashing points—helpful when you are carrying longer equipment or want more flexibility when positioning a load.

The price difference?

Just $480—or $4 more biweekly—for the additional two feet.

22' StrongHaul

This week’s Northern Truck Spotlight is built for the kind of life that doesn’t stay on pavement.

Meet the 2026 GMC Sierra 3500HD AT4.

This is the truck for people whose week might include a job site, a heavy trailer, a winter road, a boat launch—or all four.

The Duramax diesel powertrain, AT4 capability and heavy-duty construction make it a serious tool for northern work, while the premium interior, large displays and practical bed access make long days behind the wheel a lot easier.

And this month, Employee Pricing for You delivers $12,158 in savings on this truck.

If you need one vehicle that can handle demanding work without giving up comfort, this Sierra deserves a closer look.
