The Lily Pad Cruisers are more than just a bunch of people driving and parking their vehicles. They are also giving back to the community in a big way. Below is a write-up supplied by Marcel Lemire, President, of the Lily Pad Cruisers located in Petersfield.
4 years ago we entered into an agreements with Selkirk and District Community Foundation. We had a member suggest we raise $10,000 a year for this project. Thinking this is a real challenge we joined in. The foundation raises money to give to different organizations each year. We are waiting till we reach $100,000 where thereafter we can ask for the interest so as we can give to variable charities here. Our guess is that with that amount the interest should be $5000. In the last 4 years we have raised and given the Foundation $ 44,500. Not only that , we manage to give $5000 each year to 3 charities here in Selkirk. There are 2 Bursaries that go to 2 students who are in the Mechanical Field at the high school. Each is worth $1000. Then $2000 goes to Palliative Care here and the last $1000 goes to Our Daily Bread Kitchen. With these monies the charitable receipts are divided up and at our Wind-Up we sell these as a draw . This is in no way looking for a pat on the back but to show where all the monies raised throughout the year is dispersed. So when you come to our Annual Show N Shine this money is well spent. Thankyou
