Throughout the past quarter century, thanks to conservation efforts, we have witnessed remarkable improvements in Howe Sound and its ecosystem. The most significant evidence of these efforts is the return of wildlife to the area, including some mammals that had been absent for over a century.

This Earth Day, let's celebrate Howe Sound and all those who have contributed to its recovery. We've made significant progress, but there's more we can do. Each one of us has a role to play in the ongoing restoration and preservation of this precious ecosystem.

We encourage you to check out the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative and Átl'ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound Marine Stewardship Initiative to learn more about Howe Sound and how we can work together to protect it.

Since 1931 Sewell's Marina has been renting boats in Horseshoe Bay. Original boats were row boats and later outfitted with single cylinder engines often taken from washing machines of the day. They were referred to as "putt putts" because of the sound the engine would make. With less frequency now, repeat customers will come in and say "... the first time I rented a boat here..."
