A Mazda MX-5 water leak solved—and a customer suggested we share it!

A customer recently brought us a Mazda MX-5 with water collecting behind the driver’s seat.

The source wasn’t immediately visible. We folded the convertible top down halfway, which allowed us to reach and inspect the drainage area behind the seat.

The MX-5 is designed so rainwater flows through this drain and exits underneath the car. When the drain becomes blocked, the water can back up and end up inside the vehicle instead. It's a simple fix with a bottle brush we bought from the Dollar store.

Once the drain was cleared, the water was able to flow properly under the car again.

When we explained what we had found, the customer said:

“You should post that online!”

So here it is—a helpful tip for other Mazda MX-5 owners. If you notice water behind one of the seats, the convertible-top drain may be the culprit.

Sometimes solving a problem simply requires knowing where to look.
