As many of you know, my true love, in creating with metal, is getting the opportunity to do custom commissioned pieces for people.
A couple of months back, I was approached by a sweet lady in Saskatoon to make a piece honoring her father. He is 97 and still mobile and loving life. After much discussion and her telling me about his life, we settled on a bench for the garden. What makes this special is that it will be made from all of his old tools that she has collected over the years. He was also an avid gardener and lived Lillies.
This is a special one as it is celebrating his continued life, and I am honored to be a part of it. Now, most of you know that I claim to really not draw anything out before I build.....however this "scribble" is all i did to start this.
Now, I am only 1/3 of the way to completion, but it is already starting to take shape. I had to make a small structural frame, just for strength, as most of the tools are cast iron, and that doesn't hold well structurally.
The bench will be 44" across and 36" high overall. It will be rusted after and coated to preserve. The seat will be made of old elevator wood.
And if you are lucky enough to know who I am talking about, who is the recipient of this piece, please do not spoil the surprise!!!
I can't wait to see how this all turns out!!!
