Dear Higgy:
Long time fan, first time writer. Or should I say Rider? ahahah. Anyway, I've been riding street for about 3 years now but I'm new to riding the track, and I am wondering Why is there no Beginner or "Relaxed" group at Higgy's anymore? Is Higgy's only for FAST riders?
Thanks,
Richard Butkiss
Well, first of all, thanks for writing in Richard and I must say, Great Question.
Higgy's WELCOMES first time track riders with wide open leather arms. My general rule of thumb is a first time track rider is in Novice/Beginner for at least their first five (5) track days.
Indeed, Intermediate I is the most Novice Group at Higgy’s, and would be mandatory for all riders whom are new to the track. We encourage our NEW riders to wear a high viz vest while on track. The vest indicates Beginner Rider to other riders and that passes should be done around that Beginner with extra care and space. This is how we aim to create a Safe Space in the Intermediate I class for new track participants.
Inter II is intended for Riders with estimated lap times in the lower (faster) half of the days Intermediate participants.
Quick history lesson: Higgy's just never got enough people signing up for “Relaxed” group in the past and so it became a messy group of some Relaxed riders and some (sometimes much) faster riders who booked Relaxed when Inter/Advanced was sold out. That’s not a good situation, so we stopped that.
Higgy's LOVES first time track day riders, and we'll do our best to ensure you have an absolutely fantastic introduction to track day riding. Two of our Control Riders are professional riding instructors, and they take great interest in your safety, enjoyment, and improvement. (They're on track and in the paddock, giving tips or suggestions all day, free!)
Higgy's looks forward to seeing you newbies... On The Track!
