Spent Saturday at the BREAKOVER ANGLE OFF-ROAD PARK (breakoverpark.ca) in Washago, Ontario. The gathering was very well organized by OFFROADSTORE.CA and besides the food, raffle and the usual gearhead discussions, we managed to do several hours of trail driving in the snow covered forest. The event also offered a great opportunity to showcase the RUPPERT overland trailer for those seeing it for the first time. The presence of the dry bath with a full size shower and separate toilet keeps surprising folks in this small trailer.

Crossing the border back to Canada meant that our trip came close to an end at this time. Starting with the Overland Expo East and continuing with the various environmental and terrain testing throughout the US, we enjoyed the comfort and the ruggedness this little overlanding trailer offers. Now we’ll go back to the drawing board, take what we learned and apply it to the production models. Appreciate the interest of all that followed and stay tuned as we will provide updates through the upcoming months!

Our first trip of the day lead us to Truma’s headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana. Thank you, Tim Nye, for reviewing our entire HVAC install and the useful insights. We, for example, learned that the reason why our heater shut down in the Colorado high country was because in the lower air pressure and oxygen level the Truma systems need an LP regulator adjustment. Why didn’t I think of that?!Being in Elkhart, of course, we couldn’t not go in to Alliance RV and say hi to them. Their constant growth and development is mind boggling! Finished the day in the beautiful and harmonious towns of Shipshewana and Middlebury. Words cannot describe the peaceful atmosphere these extremely well kept and lovingly manicured Amish towns carry.

Continued heading East among the windmills and rolling hills of Iowa and then Illinois. When we reached the Southern Chicago area we were “greeted” by the usual large city traffic, something that we really did not miss through our travels.
Arriving to Indiana we decided to boondock by the RV Hall of Fame & Museum in Elkhart. The museum has a very comprehensive exhibit of the RV history that is definitely worth checking out.

We said our goodbyes to the amazing Utah and started to head toward East through Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa.

To be truthful, the night had to be cut short due to the loss of our heating. In below freezing temperatures the Truma furnace got confused and quit giving heat. We were able to get it go twice in a short period of time, but then it stopped completely. So we decided that instead of shivering in the cold, we break camp and go. We saw a beautiful dawn up in the hills of Colorado and at least made a good progress in the day’s travel plan. Interestingly, we were able to get the furnace work again by the following night. Disclaimer: as this trailer is a prototype, I credit this hiccup to the fact that we are still in the testing period of all systems and we’re not done with the completion of some of them. In general, we are very pleased with and proud of all the Truma products we’ve built in. We also truly enjoy the hot showers we can take in this small trailer thanks to the excellent Truma AquaGo Plus tankless water heater.

We started the morning with meeting the Colorado Mallcrawlers in Moab, Utah and quickly decided to drive to Grand Junction, Colorado and do an overlanding trip at the Escalante National Conservation Area. Upon reaching the trailhead we aired down the tires and begun traversing the Colorado backcountry. We experienced fantastic trails, nice remains of a homestead and various scenery. Finished the day with a quick dinner in the rapidly cooling temperatures.
