I haven't driven one yet, but judging by the reviews, it's a fairly competent small SUV. The suspension is much improved in the new platform, so handling is stable and safe. Unfortunately, the Cross suffers from the usual Toyota economy car shortcomings; noisy motor, numb steering and spongy brakes. Nevertheless, the styling is clean and the interior (at least up front) is comfortable. Toyota's CVT tr**ny is one of the best in the segment, at least from the reliability standpoint. Pricing in the base and mid-level models is aggressive. Of course, the car's biggest strength is the expected dependability. The power/fuel economy relationship is decent, although I'd wait for the hybrid model that's coming next year, if you drive a lot. The car seems to be a better proposition than the Corolla sedan for likely $20 more on your lease payment. Good effort and I give it 7 out of 10.
