Did you know that batteries need to be recycled properly, not just thrown in the garbage? Keeping them out of landfills protects the environment and allows valuable materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel to be recovered and reused.
Here’s how to recycle your used batteries responsibly:
Collect & Store Safely – Keep old batteries in a dry container away from heat or moisture.
Prep for Recycling – Tape the terminals of lithium, button cell, or 9V batteries with tape to prevent sparks, and store them in a non-metal container.
Find a Drop-Off Location – Many retailers, recycling centers, and municipal depots accept batteries. Some municipalities even offer curb side pickup. If not, you can find local drop-off points at recycleyourbatteries.ca.
Spread the Word – Let others know how simple and important it is to recycle batteries properly.
Let’s all do our part to reduce waste, protect our soil and water, and turn old batteries into new resources.
