Let’s learn a bit about Snow tires!

Engineers specifically design winter tires (also known as snow tires) to handle freezing temperatures, ice, and deep snow. Manufacturers use a softer rubber compound that stays flexible in cold weather, which helps the tires provide better grip and shorter braking distances on icy or snowy roads. Their deep treads and specialized patterns significantly improve traction. If you live in a region where temperatures regularly drop below 7°C (45°F), you should install winter tires to ensure safe driving.

Snow tires, also known as winter tires, are tires designed for use on snow and ice. Snow tires have a tread design with larger gaps than those on conventional tires, increasing tractionon snow and ice. Such tires that have passed specific winter traction performance tests are entitled to display a 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snow Flake) and/or a IMP (Icy Mountain Peak) symbols on their sidewalls. Tires designed for winter conditions are optimized to drive at temperatures below 7 °C (45 °F).

Key features of winter tires
✅ Rubber compound: Made with a softer rubber that stays flexible in cold temperatures (down to
30C), providing better grip and traction. All-season tires harden below 7C and lose elasticity.

✅ Tread design: Features deeper grooves and thousands of tiny cuts called "sipes" that bite into snow and ice, helping to prevent sliding.

✅ Tread depth: Winter tires have a deeper tread than all-season tires for better performance in snow and slush.

✅ Severe snow rating: Look for the three-peaked mountain and snowflake symbol on the tire's sidewall. This indicates the tire has been tested and meets specific snow traction performance requirements.

How to use winter tires

✅ Install all four: You must install four winter tires at the same time for consistent handling and stability, regardless of your vehicle's drive type (e.g., front-wheel, all-wheel).

✅ Match tires: Ensure all four tires are the same type, size, speed rating, and load index.
* Placement: Put the best tires (with the deepest tread) on the rear axle to maintain directional control.

✅ Monitor tire pressure: Check your tire pressure monthly. Cold temperatures cause pressure to drop, so proper inflation is essential for safety, fuel efficiency, and tread life.

✅ Change them out: Swap to winter tires when consistent temperatures fall below 7C
