🛑 HWY 17, EAST OF PAYS PLAT 🛑
October 23, accident cleanup continues today at the bottom of the hill.

We understand this hill can feel neverending, making slowing down more challenging, especially for larger vehicles. That is exactly why we have placed eight warning signs along the downhill approach, giving drivers advance notice to reduce speed before reaching our crews.

Yesterday, crews observed drivers passing these warnings without slowing until they rounded the curve and saw the emergency scene. We were paying attention and placed a third flagger with a slow sign midway down the hill, which helped… a little.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN EARLY. Respond to the first warning sign, leave plenty of stopping distance, and be prepared to stop. Please don’t wait until you see a worker to react.

🚧 Westbound lane closed.
🚗 Alternating oneway traffic through the eastbound lane.

Follow all signs and flagger directions. Thank you for your patience and for helping our crews get home safely. 💙

🚨 TRAINING DAY AT GARY’S TOWING 🚨
Behind every successful recovery is a crew that puts in the work long before the call comes in. Training days give our team the opportunity to practise, ask questions, share experience, and strengthen the skills we rely on in the field. 💪🪝

Towing and recovery takes much more than a big truck. It takes planning, proper equipment selection, careful rigging, clear communication, and a team that understands how each person’s actions affect the entire operation. Every scene presents its own challenges, and taking the time to work through those challenges together helps us prepare for the next call.

Our focus is on building good habits; assessing the situation before getting started, identifying hazards, understanding equipment capabilities and limits, and making sure everyone knows the plan. Knowing when to stop, reassess, and make an adjustment is just as valuable as knowing how to get the job moving.

Training also brings experience and fresh perspectives together. It gives newer team members room to learn and experienced operators the opportunity to explain the reasoning behind their decisions. Questions are encouraged, feedback matters, and everyone has something to contribute.

We’re proud of the effort our crew puts into learning and supporting one another. The care taken during practice carries into the work we do for our customers, our community, and everyone sharing the road.

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared their knowledge, and helped make this training day a valuable one. There is always more to learn, and we’re committed to putting in the time.

Stay sharp. Work together. Put safety first. That’s how we keep building a stronger team at Gary’s Towing. 🚛💪

The Michael Myers mask came out before the ride even started… Chris clearly had his own plans for our October Ride Along. 😂

He recently moved up to our heavy division, but we grabbed a light duty truck for this adventure. A little time back where he started, a few questions from Ashley, and plenty of Chris being Chris. 💙

He even named the episode:
“Chris & Ashley Prosperous Adventure of Self Awareness and Awesomeness.”

We’ll let you decide how much self awareness was achieved. The awesomeness, according to Chris, was never in question. 🤣

The GM is riding sh***un.

All October, Ashley is climbing into the passenger seat with our drivers. Expect Q&As with the crew, a lot of learning on the job, and an honest look at what a shift really involves.

Got a question for our drivers? Drop us a message and we'll ask it on the road.

Follow along all month.

Welcome back to Gary’s, Missy! She’s taking her seat in our light duty division and ready to roll, with a new role and a whole lot of personality. 😎

We’re excited to have her back on the team and can’t wait to see her out doing her thing!

Give Missy a big welcome back, and a wave if you see her around! 👋

🔥 A Behind the Scenes Look at FireCon 2026 🔥

A big thank you to the FireCon team for welcoming Ashley, General Manager, and Jordan, Hauling Coordinator, and giving them a behind the scenes look at the incredible training taking place in Thunder Bay this week!

From vehicle extrication and complex rescue scenarios to specialized equipment and hands on emergency response training, it was an incredible opportunity to see the skill, preparation and teamwork that go into keeping Northwestern Ontario’s communities safe.

One of the highlights was seeing the Mobile Live Fire Training Unit, a specially designed container that allows firefighters to experience and respond to realistic fire conditions in a controlled training environment.

Gary’s Towing is honoured to support FireCon each year by donating vehicles and providing transportation for the training exercises. We are proud to play even a small part in the important work being done to prepare firefighters and emergency first responders from across Northwestern Ontario.

As a towing company, we understand how important it is for all responding agencies and service providers to understand one another’s roles at an emergency scene. Opportunities like this strengthen those relationships and give us an even greater appreciation for the dedication of our region’s fire and emergency personnel.

A very special shout out to Deanna for taking the time to provide such an informative tour, explain the different training scenarios and share her knowledge with us. We truly appreciate the warm welcome and education!

Wishing everyone participating in FireCon 2026 a safe and successful week of training! 🚒🔥

✨ Heisenberg Shines at the 2026 PTAO Tow Trade Show! ✨

Last year, we left the Tow Show with one big goal, to return with our 65 ton rotator, Heisenberg. This year, we made it happen, and he certainly knew how to shine! 🚨

Ashley, Kyle, Ally and Kylie proudly represented Gary’s Towing and Northwestern Ontario for a memorable weekend filled with industry connections, incredible equipment, the Women in Towing Appreciation Luncheon, the “Let Your Light Shine” light show and plenty of unforgettable moments.

From celebrating extraordinary women in towing to watching Heisenberg’s Show Girls take the rotator controls, this was a weekend we won’t soon forget.

Thank you to Professional Towing Association of Ontario, the sponsors, organizers, exhibitors and everyone who made this year’s show such a success. Until next year!

Last year, after attending the PTAO Tow Trade Show, we left with one big goal, to return in 2026 with our very own 65 ton Peterbilt rotator, Heisenberg. This year, we made it happen. Representing Gary’s Towing at the 2026 show were Ashley, our General Manager; Kyle Pewtress, our Operations Manager
