Pat brought his other V-Max into HOGwash, this time his 1985 1st Gen Yamaha V-Max.

We previously had his 2nd Gen V-Max in for tires, and now the original V-Max was due for a new front.

The old front tire had definitely done its job, so we sourced a Bridgestone Exedra 61V. With a bike like the V-Max, we wanted to make sure we maintained the proper V speed rating rather than dropping down to a lower-rated tire.

The new Bridgestone was mounted and balanced, everything was reinstalled, and the bike headed out for a test ride. It felt great with the fresh front tire.

These first-generation V-Maxes are seriously cool machines. Big V4, unmistakable styling, and this one sounds absolutely wicked through the Hindle exhaust.

Thanks again, Pat, for bringing the other V-Max our way!

A visit from some very special friends!

We finally got Sam and Sara from Eyecandy Custom Cycles in Smithers over to HOGwash Detail and Tires for their first visit, and of course they brought Tank along too.

Tank is their absolutely massive 130-lb pup who pretty much stole the show the minute he arrived.

Sam and Sara have been great friends and supporters of HOGwash, and Sam has sent some awesome people our way from Eyecandy Custom Cycles. We really appreciate the support, referrals and friendship between two local motorcycle shops here in Northwest BC.

Thanks for making the trip over from Smithers to check out the shop, guys. It was great having all three of you here. Although I’m pretty sure Tank now thinks HOGwash belongs to him. 🍻

Old tires can look okay… until they don’t.

This 2010 Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited came into HOGwash Detail and Tires for a fresh set of Shinko SR777s.

Once the old rear tire was removed, the condition really stood out. Along with significant wear, there was visible deformation and lifting in the tread area. The date code told another important part of the story: 4812 manufactured in the 48th week of 2012.

That makes this tire nearly 14 years old.

Motorcycle tires deteriorate with age as well as mileage. Rubber hardens, heat cycles add up, and deterioration isn’t always obvious while the tire is still mounted on the bike.

Rolly’s Ultra is now riding on a fresh set of Shinko SR777s, front and rear. After installation, everything was torqued to specification and the bike received a successful test ride before heading home.

Check more than your tread depth. Check your tire date codes too.

Something a little different rolled into HOGwash this week. A 2003 Triumph Bonneville T100

Dee brought her Triumph in for an intermittent fuel leak that appeared to be coming from the left carb. We traced it to the fuel filter and fuel-line connections, corrected the issue and repositioned the filter so the throttle linkage was no longer contacting it.

Road tested, leak-free, and a follow-up confirmed it’s still staying dry.

Glad we could track this one down and get Dee back on her Bonneville!

Fergie’s 2021 Road Glide 128ci Stage IV is cleaned up and ready to go.

This one spent some time at HOGwash for a complete 3-hole oil service, fresh 20W oil in the Legend AXEO front suspension, installation of his new red Figurati reusable magnetic oil filter and magnetic oil/transmission dipsticks, a small dash-light repair, and a full detail to finish it off.

We put some highway miles on it after the fork service and everything feels great.

That 128 Stage IV sure makes the test ride portion of the job enjoyable.

Thanks again Fergie for continuing to support HOGwash and for all the referrals you’ve sent our way.

Yesterday I was in the middle of detailing a bike when Don and his wife pulled up at HOGwash with a problem.

They had picked up a nail in the rear tire of their KTM 390 Adventure and had plugged the tire themselves in Prince Rupert, but by the time they reached Terrace it was leaking badly again. After calling around looking for help, Sam at Eyecandy Custom Cycles sent them my way.

Luckily, I had the exact 130/80-17 Shinko 705 adventure tire in stock.

Rear wheel off, new tire mounted and balanced, everything checked and torqued to spec, and they were back on the road in under an hour.

This is exactly why I’ve started keeping common adventure tire sizes on the shelf. Sometimes a traveller doesn’t have a few days to wait for a tire.

Great people to meet and another couple safely back on their adventure.

Thanks to Sam at Eyecandy Custom Cycles for the referral.

Dewy came down from Kitimat for a 3-hole AMSOIL service and full detail on his 2023 Road Glide Special.

When Dewy and Tracy came to pick it up, what should have been a simple bike pickup turned into all of us hanging out, talking bikes and getting to know each other.

Linds and I fired up the Fat Boy and rode with them partway back toward Kitimat. We stopped at Onion Lake, put some music on, took pictures, laughed and just enjoyed the evening.

That’s the part of HOGwash that doesn’t show up on an invoice.

We work on motorcycles, but some of the best parts of doing this are the people we meet along the way.

And apparently Tracy has been hiding some serious photography skills. These pictures are incredible.

This is why we do this.
