I do love getting packages from SpotModel. The care and attention in the presentation adds to the joy of receiving what I ordered. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Hey, gang:

Once again this year i participated in the 20th Annual 24 Hour Model Build here on Facebook. I had high hopes, and a good kit. So i figured i had a good shot.

Unfortunately, this is as far as i made it this year… I wasn’t really having many issues with the build, but for the first time ever doing one of these, I had issues with sitting at the bench… i had to take frequent breaks due to my legs and back hurting. I’d say I spent 2-3 hours not building (including food/bathroom breaks) and it bit me. I feel like I have more than the lost three hours’ worth of work to do on this though, so I’ll take the L. I’ll take more pics later and tally how much more time it takes to finish this one. I’m actually pretty close. I’ve got some mask bleeding to fix on the paint, and then final assembly…

I’ll still be back next year. I already have some ideas. 😁

Hey, gang

This is going to be my build for this weekend’s 2026 20th Annual 24 Hour Model Build; a 1/20 Tamiya Fiat 131 Abarth rally car. I’m going to put enough of my hobby room back together to do this build.. the spray booth and the dehydrator are musts for this. I will focus on building the car… I’m not sure about the driver and co-driver figures yet, as I don’t have many figure painting supplies. Maybe I’ll “figure” something out. 😁

I’ll try and document as much of the process as I can.. Though I usually end up forgetting to. Wish me luck. 😁

Until next session.

Hey, gang

Here is the mail call from last May that I didn’t get to post.

I had placed an order with SpotModel for a Tamiya 1/24 Mercedes AMG GT3, as well as an LB Production GT3 Evo transkit, with 3D printed parts to update the nose and tail. Also from LB Production via SpotModel was a set of decals for the #888 GruppeM Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo driven by Maro Engel, Mikaël Grenier, and Maxime Martin at the 2025 Bathurst 12 Hours race in Australia.

This build will unfortunately be relegated to the back burner for now, due to my hobby room being in limbo, but it’s a build I am looking forward to doing.

Until next session.

Apologies for my absence, gang…. My build mojo has been a bit lax, and I am cultivating a new romantic relationship… so time at the bench has been lacking.

In the meantime, I ordered this from the good folks at SpotModel. Any guesses as to what’s in here? 😁

Until next session.

Just getting down to some basic putty and priming on my new project for the local Club Day in April. It’s gonna be big. 😁

Hey, gang,

I’ll be posting glamour shots of my 24
Hour LeMans Toyota build later on this week.

In the meantime, here is the first small subassembly on my next build; I have a little less than three months to build an unstarted kit for my local IPMS chapter Club Day.

Any guesses what it might be just from this one little piece? 🙂

Question for the hive-mind.

What’s a good source for all things in simulated wiring for scale models these days? Not just spark plug wires, but smaller accessory wires, like those that run between computer and black boxes in race car interiors etc. I used vintage wires I had from the 90’s on my recent Mustang build. They look ok, but I realized that in reality, they are far too large to be in scale. I’m open to hearing about both wiring to purchase, or hacks for finding wires in old electronic devices that work in a pinch. TIA and PFA

Hey, gang

So this past weekend I took part in a 24 hour model build. Here’s what I ended up with. Nowhere near perfect, but I’m happy with what I accomplished in the timeframe. Box stock build of a 1/24 Tamiya Toyota GT-One TS020.

Primed with Tamiya White Primer, then to save time the primered nose was masked off and the rest of the car was painted with Tamiya X-7 Red, mixed 1:1 with Tamiya thinner and shot through my airbrush. (Tamiya TS-49, Bright Red lacquer aerosol was the proper color called for in the instructions, but has been unobtanium in Canada since being banned from import last fall). I unmasked the nose and shot the whole car with two coats Future floor wax in the airbrush for an even finish and to gloss the flat white primer nose, then picked the number 3 livery of drivers Ukyo Katayama, Toshio Suzuki, and Keiichi Tsuchiya from the 24 Hours Of LeMans 1999 for the decals. Two more coats Future sealed the decals in place. The dehydrator was super handy for all of this. I had forgotten how quick and simple it is to clearcoat with Future. Definitely came in handy with the time constraints of this build.

Most of the large black areas of the car (chassis, cowl, ducting, suspension, wheels, etc) were done with Tamiya TS-29 Semigloss Black, in a bulk session at the beginning of the build, which was a great time-saver. Pretty much the rest of the painting was done per kit instructions.

Time to put this one on the shelf and contemplate what I’m going to do next year. I’m liking these Tamiya kits for time builds, having done two for this competition over the years… but we’ll see.

Until next year!

Hey folks:

So, I’ve kinda been AWOL from this model thing for a bit… when I realized that i wasn’t gonna get the Volt Mustang done for my local contest, my build-mojo kinda went out the window.

But this weekend I’m gonna try and get back in the swing of things by participating in my fourth 24 hour build.

I have chosen Tamiya’s 1/24 Toyota GT-one TS020 as my build subject. It’s just gonna be a box stock build so I’m hoping it goes smoothly. I’ll probably make a post/photo dump once the build is over and summarize the experience.

Wish me luck. 😁
