Happy Easter Monday! Smoke on the water today, and that’s a good sign we’ll be launching boats before too long. The ‘smoke’ is really ‘adjection fog’ over the open water as the sea ice is clearing within view of our yard, finally. This is caused by warmer dry air over the still very cold water. With the forecast temps this week up to 10C we could be clear to the shore in a day or few. Meanwhile I’m optimistically scheduling installation of summer tires on the land yacht.

We are busy in the basement today, continuing our cabin sole replacement on Misty Cat, our Nonsuch 26. This is the boat we started our business upon in 2008, she has been in the shed for a slow mid-life restoration since 2021. The replacement sole (floor panels) are Douglas fir ply, sealed in epoxy. These panels are finally fitted and we are about to cover them with Lonseal faux-teak, a kind of fancy but very durable cushion-floor roll goods. The floor covering will be epoxied to the plywood. Bungs in the covering (made with a grommet punch) will conceal screws to some panels, others will be held in with some special hardware, tba.

No Rush was launched at Lions Marina last week, meanwhile we've put in our docks and will bring her to her home berth in the next couple of days. Launching at St. Peter's Lions Marina is a rewarding and hassle-free experience for most boat owners. The staff and volunteer crew have become very capable with the hydraulic lift trailer and truck, and the superb launch ramp here. We've been wet for just over a week now, the mast is stepped and we will bring No Rush to her home dock in the next couple of days. Summer is coming! Its another sure sign that summer sailing is just around the corner. Faithful buoy-tender Wreckless made her spring visit a few days ago. Now all the navigation buoys are gone from the wharf and back to their summer jobs in St. Peter's Inlet of the Bras d'Or Lake.
