Often times, the old ways are the best ways.

Needle descalers are old technology that work really well for the rust in our area. It breaks up the hard layer of rust scale between parts.

This mini descaler is a bit more modern take on an old idea. It works great when a more gentle approach is required. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite tools.

I think...

I understand through experience.

The solutions to my problems are in my bay. In front of my face, and in my hands. They are not in a computer screen.

Auto techs are curious puzzle solvers. When it comes to providing a repair solution we are looking at what your vehicle needs. That means we analyse your vehicle, not blindly follow what tribal wisdom deems as the probable cause.

I wish everyone well.

It's getting so cold it broke the weather network.

Tonight we will likely pass the threshold of when our vehicles will say "NO!". Approximately anything below -36C.

I hope your batteries are charged, that your block heaters work, and that your winterfront keeps you from freezing up. I am glad some of you can keep your vehicles sheltered, and have modified your vehicles with added heaters etc. for these cold days.

"The best part is no part." A simple engineering philosophy of what good engineering is.

So why are modern vehicles engineered as such a clustered mess? Are modern engineers with all their modern advantages stupid, or is it something else? Makes for interesting discussion...

This modern automotive industry blunder creates a problem due to parts availability. Even basic parts needed for operation on new vehicles are not readily available.

My solution is to have an inventory to help reduce my clients downtime. Having their vehicles down and out is a failure on my part. Keeping them moving is the goal.

What's the solution?

It's been a long time since we've heard slogans like "The most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road."

In my opinion, the industry has never been so bad from a repair perspective. In my business, one of the main goals has been focused on solutions that minimize down time, and disruption of life/schedule.

By digging deep into mechanical/electrical/parts systems, I have been able to increase dependability, and reduce risk with solutions specific to GM trucks, and our rural area challenges.

It seems most people feel repair is becoming a challenge due to the technology of newer vehicles, which may be true for DIY'rs, but that is not the case for qualified professionals.

The challenge, in my opinion, is that the newer vehicles are not being built to last. In my opinion, the whole system is DESIGNED to make repairs needlessly cost prohibative, to make repairs more frequent, and to make the parts industry unable to adequately supply the market.

These aren't just scrapers to me.

Some may look at these tools, and see a scraper kit. An internet search will tell you the price is about $130 for this set up. What I see costs much much more.

In every professionals toolbox there is a mix of tools. Tools specific to their experience, and their market. Someone may look at their tools and think "SHWOO! Those tools must be 100G!"

What I see is experience. If everyone could see experience, and if they valued time as much as professionals do, they would understand the physical tools in the toolbox are a small part of the cost.

We don't just find a process and tooling that works right away. We slowly chip away at building our "toolbox". Through years of continuously improving our skills, and tooling, we reach our current level. Skills and tools that are specific to our market, and our area.

This isn't just a scraper kit to me. This is experience and time. Two things that I place a high value on.
