This is WHY I teach advanced driving skills as part of a driver’s training through Skid Control Inc. You can’t just teach this on the roads as a driving school, it requires specialized equipment to teach the skills required to handle skids and save lives.

Anyone ticketed for distracted driving in B.C. today will be facing some very expensive new penalties — more than three times the previous rate.

Current distracted driving fines in B.C. are a $368 dollar fine and four demerit points of $175, meaning a total of $543. If you collect more than three points on your driving record in 12 months, ICBC charges you a Driver Penalty Point (DPP) premium.

A second distracted driving ticket within 12 months will pay $368, totalling $888 dollars.

A third offence would cost a driver more than $3,000.

A witness says the driver of a pickup truck that collided with a church minibus in rural Texas acknowledged he had been texting while driving.
