** An Important Industry Update **
As you may have heard, one of the largest distributors in the industry has had a significant setback that will affect paper crafting stores around the world for a little while, while they work through the challenges and reset.
In a nutshell, about a month ago, one of the largest craft distributors in North America experienced an electrical storm that knocked out their computer systems and shut down operations. Upon restarting, they had a warehouse fire with smoke damage that has significantly affected their main warehouse. As a result, they have had to cease operations, layoff staff, and navigate the long and tedious process of substantial insurance claims, while they work to recalibrate and reset before resuming operations.
What does this mean for you?
Unfortunately, the distributor affected has had to cancel all cued or pending orders for the foreseeable future. They are also not able to fulfill any new orders until things are resolved. As well, some of the brands that you know and love will not be available during this time as this particular distributor owns or manages many popular product lines such as: Bazzill Cardstock, Tonic Studios Products (including Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive), We R Makers, American Crafts & EK Success items, and 49 & Market products to name a few.
How will this affect retailers?
Everyone is working very hard to pivot and be able to bring you the products that you know and love, but please know that filling custom orders, preorders, or products from the companies that are owned or managed by this distributor will now take some time, if they can be filled at all.
Small stores (like us!) are resilient! We always do our best serve you, but please know that many retailers will now have to order and import items directly from manufacturers (who are being 100% supportive and doing all they can to help!), but this approach can impact our ability to order smaller quantities of certain items and can provide numerous other challenges like increased shipping costs, fulfilment shortages, shipping delays, and gaps in product availability.
Industry experts estimate that the effects of this disruption will be felt for at least 3–6 months, with some predicting it could take up to a year before the supply chain fully recovers.
Many of the manufacturers affected (such as 49 & Market) are working hard to find alternative distribution routes, but it will take some time to get items moved, relocated and set up to ship, too.
What you should know:
All of the paper craft stores that you know and love are working hard to find alternatives for you – Please support us! It is a priority for all of us to reduce the impact of this significant loss for customers as much as possible, and we ask for patience and grace as we strive to find other options to best serve you.
At Scrapbook Garage, please know that you are able to purchase items instore and in our online store as usual (in stock items you will find there are not affected at all), and we appreciate your support!
Please also know that we have temporarily paused all custom orders and preorders to reduce extended wait times, manage expectations, and ensure the best customer experience during this time. We are confident that we will be able to offer preorders again soon and are excited about the AMAZING NEW COMPANIES that we can’t wait to introduce you to!!) – Please stay tuned!
Thank you again for supporting our family business. We appreciate you!
Smiles,
Sue
