How to Safely Perform Auto Body Painting
If you are wanting to try to spray paint your vehicle yourself, there are many precautions that you should consider prior to loading up your paint spray gun. The casual hobbyist should never put themselves at risk by trying to perform these duties themselves - it is always best to leave it to the industry pros at Osoyoos Grand Autobody & Boat Painting:
- Paint in a very well ventilated location
- Use a respirator - an air-supplied respirator is the best choice, although a cartridge-based respirator may also be used so long as it it is using a new / clean filter.
- Cover your skin - you’re dealing with some pretty harsh chemicals here - so you’ll want every millimetre of skin to be safely covered up with a full-body paint suit and nitrile gloves and safety goggles.
- Clean any spills up right away - not only is a spill a physical hazard (slipping / tripping and falling) - but the chemicals in the paint can easily attach to the bottom of your footwear and become tracked around other areas of your garage / workspace.
- Read your paint’s MSDS (material safety data sheet) - this sheet will list all the harmful toxins in the paint that you are using and also provide you with safety procedures should anything bad happen.
