As I sit and reflect on the fundraiser we held for Matias and Emily, the one word that resonates on how I feel is humbled. I never imagined that one Facebook post would gain the momentum that it did. What I witnessed on Saturday, was the true reflection as to why I am proud to call this place my home ❤️

I want to give a huge shout out to Natalie and her crew at GBR - Craft Burgers & Poutines. You three were beyond incredible! For those that do not know, these three did not stop! No breaks, no taking 5 to get off their feet, not even a chance to stop and eat a meal themselves. They faced a never ending line up with a smile on their face and never faltered.
I would also like to give a shout out to our own crew, that kept the wheels turning in the shop behind the scenes. Thank you Matt, Jody and Ethan for supporting us in this fundraiser and always putting up with my million and one ways to make your days more challenging 😁 We appreciate you! You boys are worth your weight in gold! Thank you to Kaitlyn who kept answering phones, running the front desk, collecting donations inside and somehow also managing to have time to be able to convert my office into a prep kitchen. She spent a few years working for Natalie, and her cross trained skills played a key role in ensuring that everything ran smooth.

Most importantly I want to thank each and every one of you, that despite the long line ups and the summer heat, you showed up! You came in waves of smiles and laughter and immeasurable patience. For every one of you that filled the donation jars and for every one of you that came for a meal, you humbled me. You came together and you showed a community spirit that has resonated deep in my heart.

I was asked in the beginning, what my goal was that I hoped to raise. I didn’t set a goal. I have never done anything like this, and I didn’t know what to expect. If I was to set a goal, it would not have touched near what we raised. With Carwen Ltd joining us to match the profits, and all of the collected donations, on behalf of the Swalwell family, we raised $17,298.30.

The sky is clear, and the sun is shining 😁 We are open and ready for you! Come on down to Krankys Garage Ltd. and grab yourself a burger from GBR - Craft Burgers & Poutines. The food truck will be open from 11am to 6pm (or until Sold out) All profits made today will be donated directly to the Swalwell family, and be matched by us and some other amazing businesses! We also have two donation jars set up for those that wish to support Matias, Emily and the girls, but want to skip buying a burger, or both! There will be one located at the food truck, and one inside our lobby. Thank you everyone, I am beyond words from the support and love this community has already shown this family ❤️

*Swalwell and Family Fundraiser*
924 Alpine Ave, 100 Mile House
Sat, August 8th, 11am-6pm

For anyone that has attended a local event hosted by the 100 Mile & District Outriders, or has had a custom set of locally made and beautifully designed custom kitchen cupboards, very likely also know Matias and Emily Swalwell.

We have been blessed to be a part of their story right from the first day. Matias and Emily are not only amazing parents for their three beautiful daughters, Ruth, Audrey and Nora, this family has hearts and souls of gold. Along with a willingness to help those that need it and to support our community and give back without faltering, they are the first to ask “what can I do to help?”

Well, now this family needs our help!

Today, we were given some absolutely stumbling news. Matias had a devastating accident, and was severely electrocuted. He was airlifted to Vancouver, with Emily at his side. Emily made the tough decision of leaving their 3 young daughters behind with their grandparents, as they were still trying to unravel what had happened.
Matias is not out of the woods yet, and he has an incredibly long and painful road of recovery ahead of him. Although I cannot say too much at this time, I have been given permission by Emily to hold a fundraiser on the families behalf. We needed help with this and one person came to mind. Someone else that has also been a part of Emily and Matias’s life story.
We have teamed up with Natalie, GBR - Craft Burgers & Poutines. to put on the biggest fundraiser we can for this family. Please come join us at the shop for your lunch, your dinner, or your midday snacks on August 8th between 11:00am and 6:00pm. All proceeds raised by GBR will be donated to the Swalwell Family. Krankys Garage Ltd. will be matching these proceeds. We also challenge any local businesses that know this family to consider doing the same. All funds will go directly to Emily and Matias. We will also have a donation jar set up during this time.

I know this is really hard timing for many, and I understand our community and surrounding communities are hurt right now. But so is this family, and right now, they need our help more than ever!

It is always an honour to be able to support the community that supports us. This is our home, and has always been mine. We understand and appreciate how important these community events are, along with the volunteer groups and businesses that organize and run them. Without societies, our weekends would be a lot more grey.
Behind the scenes of any community event, you will find a group of hard working volunteers that keep the wheels turning. Not only to be able to provide activities and opportunities to our town and surrounding communities, but also to attract tourism.
If you are a member of a club, thank you! If you will be attending any community events, thank you! If you are a sponsor in any way, thank you! And most importantly, If you are a volunteer, THANK YOU!
