Here it is! "My air conditioner stopped cooling, can you recharge it?"

I get asked this question quite a bit, and almost every RV air conditioner is a great example of why it's not recommended to add a valve and recharge the unit.

RV air conditioners are hermetically sealed, meaning they are filled once, and sealed off completely and do not have a charge port. If one leak has caused you to lose coolant, there are typically more places right behind it that are also ready to fail. Internal defects can cause these issues too and once they happen, these will continue to cause issues.

There are many repairable parts on the air conditioner, and this is definitely not a common issue, but if you do get a leak, or your compressor runs but doesn't cool, it's just time for a new air conditioner.

For longevity, it's best to have your air conditioner serviced annually.
