Remarkable! This vehicle presented with unusual noises emanating from all four corners. Upon inspection, we discovered damage to the inner tie rod, severe rusting of the rear sway bar, worn links, and most critically, a tie rod end that was essentially being held in place by chance due to a crown nut with zero threads. This was an extraordinary suspension repair, but Mercy Automotive successfully returned the vehicle to the road in a single day. A comprehensive front and rear suspension overhaul was completed for this vehicle.

📌 10 Symptoms of a Bad CV Joint and How to Spot Them Before Serious Damage Occurs:

A Constant Velocity (CV) joint is a crucial component in front-wheel-drive and many all-wheel-drive vehicles. It allows power to be transmitted smoothly from the transmission to the wheels while accommodating steering and suspension movement. When a CV joint fails, it can lead to serious drivability issues. Here are 10 common symptoms of a bad CV joint:

1. Clicking or Popping Noise While Turning: A frequent sign of a worn outer CV joint is a clicking or popping sound during sharp turns, especially at higher speeds.

2. Grease on the Inside of Wheels: A torn CV boot can leak grease, which may splatter on the inside of the wheel or around the suspension components.

3. Vibration While Driving: Damaged CV joints can cause noticeable vibrations in the vehicle, especially when accelerating.

4. Knocking Sound: A worn CV joint may produce a rhythmic knocking sound that increases with vehicle speed.

5. Bouncy Ride or Unstable Handling: Worn CV joints can affect suspension behavior, leading to an unstable or rough driving experience.

6. Loss of Power to the Wheels: In severe cases, a completely failed CV joint can prevent power from reaching the wheels, making the vehicle undrivable.

7. Clunking When Shifting Gears: A damaged inner CV joint may cause clunking sounds during gear shifts or while switching between drive and reverse.

8. Uneven Tire Wear: If the CV joint causes improper wheel alignment or movement, tires may wear unevenly.

9. Excessive Play in the Axle Shaft: During inspection, a mechanic may find the axle has too much movement or play, indicating joint wear.

10. Burning Smell or Smoke from Grease Leak: A leaking CV boot that contacts hot components can produce smoke or a burning odor.
