Picture this;
A husband and wife decide to drive their son to his shift at Tim Hortons in Cayuga. They don’t have anything planned. It’s gonna be a nice relaxing do nothing day.
Plans change…
The husband and wife looked in their mirrors at the same time, the red and blue flashing lights of an unmarked OPP SUV lit up brightly behind them. At the same time that they think it, their son in the backseat says “oh feeeeck”.
They pull over not understanding what they did wrong because nothing was done wrong but wait; they quickly find out.
Apparently, their truck that was purchased the very end of August beginning of September has unattached plates on it , meaning that those plates do not belong on that vehicle and it is an arrestable offence. The wife told the husband to contact the dealership while we were waiting to see what was gonna go on with the vehicle. Oh, I forgot to mention her son is still in the vehicle with us and he’s about to be late for work even though we could see it from where the pullover occurred. They asked permission for their son to exit the vehicle so he could walk to work. The officer actually smirked over that.
Thankfully, the officer did not arrest the husband, but he said if it was anywhere else he would’ve likely been arrested and then they would’ve figured out what was going on after that. Apparently many vehicles are being taken this way in theft rings.
The officer talked to the man at the dealership to confirm the problem. The officer advised the husband and wife to go straight to the dealership. The dealership found the plates that are supposed to be on the vehicle and they put them on today.
Maybe next weekend the husband and wife will get the quiet day.
Moral of the story;
Purchasing a vehicle ensure that the plates on that vehicle match up to the plate on the ownership!
Thank you to the officer for being so kind and explaining it to the husband and wife. As for anybody that saw the husband and wife pulled over in cayuga and recognized them; they were innocent. lol
Never a dull moment for us.
