Always write it up!

Ever write up a defect on your DVIR and then watch nothing happen? No work order, no fix, just the same truck back the next day like you never said a word?

Do that enough times and you learn. You stop writing it up. Not because the truck's fine .... because reporting it got you nothing but paperwork and a truck that still isn't fixed. So the next guy who checks that unit sees a DVIR that says "no defects" and figures everything's good.

That's not a lazy driver. That's a driver who got trained by the system to stop bothering. The company taught you reporting is pointless, then gets to point at a clean DVIR file and say "see, no issues here."

Here's the thing..... when something does go wrong, that file's the first thing anyone pulls. And it'll say no defects, every time, right up until the day one actually mattered.

If you're at a place like that, you already know it. And it's worth remembering: writing it up and having it ignored is still on record. That paper trail protects you, even when it doesn't fix the truck. 😎👍

Every driver should’ve learned axle weights before they ever touched a highway.

12,000 on the steer.
34,000 on the drives.
34,000 on the tandems.

Simple numbers… until you’re sitting at a scale house overweight, sliding tandems back and forth like a maniac while DOT watches you struggle

The scary part is some drivers out here hauling 80,000 pounds and still don’t fully understand weight distribution.

Too much on the drives? Ticket.
Too much on the trailer? Ticket.
Too much on the steer? Now you’re really having a bad day.

A lot of drivers aren’t learning this in school anymore… they’re learning it the hard way at the weigh station.
