I promise we've been busy at it with the Jeep, there's also a small surprise we have included in with the swap. Most people who have an ALH know that there is an accessory drive component that requires a specific bracket to delete. We don't have that bracket so we are being creative with it. That's the only info we are leaking about it until it's done. Engine mounts are in and welded. Fuel has been completely sorted, oil system sorted, heater core connected. Started cleaning up the Jeep harness. Electric fan has been sourced and installed, pending wiring into the VW harness. We are definitely getting closer but there is also a lot of problem solving that goes into making sure each component can go where it can without causing other problems.

A little bit of a teaser, be safe and have a great long weekend.

Reduce, re-use, recycle. The VW fuel system requires a return line. The stock Jeep fuel system doesn't have one. After cleaning out the tank we sorted the fuel system completely. Sourced some filter heads and barbs for fuel and oil. Hose will be externally braided for the oil loop. Everything will be double clamped with injection style clamps.

Again simplicity is a goal for this. If it ever breaks it needs to be able to be serviced on the trail or in the shop. Intercooler and oil cooler is from a Saab and it fit's unbelievably well. Coming in much larger than a stock VW unit. Oil cooler is isolated behind the winch and inside the grill, it's well protected. Hoping to start fabricating mounts and get the engine in this week.

Sorry for not making a post on Monday, it's been really busy.

This is what makes the magic happen. A TDConversions adapter plate. It allows us to use Jeep Driveline parts such as their flywheel and clutch assemblies. We picked up the heaviest Centerforce flywheel we could find, and will be using it with a new standard clutch kit. We are waiting on the last adapter to put the starter on.

We didn't source a standalone harness, we will be using the Jeep harness to still control all body functions and gauges. What isn't used will be terminated and sealed. The VW harness is purely for the engine and will only be used for that purpose. We are deleting the anti-shutter valve, MAF and because this is an off-road vehicle we are EGR deleting as well. One nice upgrade included with this swap is a 120A Alternator for all those light accessories and winch.

The goal is to make this as simple and reliable as possible, while upgrading what we can. Stay tuned folks.

Struggled with stuck splines on the input shaft and friction plate but we got it out! With the engines side by side you can see that not only are we matching torque figures but dropping a few hundred pounds at the same time. If 100lbs is worth a tenth in the quarter, I wonder what it's worth in the mud. 🤔

That's it until Monday, hope all of you have a great weekend!

Timing is done, new Continental Belt, SKF Tensioner and rollers, Hepu water pump with metal impeller. Also got the Billet oil filter relocation bracket on, who doesn't love billet. Won't be much longer until I switch back to removing more from the Jeep.

If you have a German automobile like most of our technicians do, we have access to OEM replacement parts for much cheaper than the dealerships. Be sure to ask our Service Advisor when booking your appointment.

Making progress on the Jeep, cleaned up the ALH, de-sooted the intake and new gaskets. Will be doing a new timing set and water pump today. Once it's assembled and ready I can finish pulling the 4L. We like to keep ourselves organized, red solo cups, labelled and the hardware put in them and placed next to associated parts.

We have a VERY cool build in the works and we will be sharing on here the progress in the coming weeks so stay tuned!!

Also remember we are open and ready for upcoming tire season and any other mechanical needs you might have.

Stay safe!
