Im still not sure how much I trust it so I’ll try it out on my car first and see if it lasts.

This is a problem on a lot of BMWs that have sunroofs not just X5s and the fix will usually be similar, but this is the procedure specifically for the E53.

I would also recommend checking these weak spots before you have a leak. Once the water starts getting in, it can quickly lead to electronic issues as there are many modules that are there in the path of the water.
